As health systems worldwide grapple with the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, patients durable LVAD support represent a unique population at risk for disease. This paper outlines case of such patient who developed COVID-19 complicated by "cytokine storm" severe acute respiratory distress syndrome and myocardial injury describes challenges that arose during management.

BACKGROUNDOrthotopic heart transplantation (OHT) recipients may be particularly vulnerable to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). OHT during the pandemic presents unique challenges in terms of feasibility and safety.METHODSChart review was performed for consecutive with COVID-19 waitlisted patients who underwent from March 1, 2020 May 15, 2020.RESULTSOf approximately 400 followed at our institution, 22 acquired COVID-19. Clinical characteristics included median age 59 (range, 49–71) years,...

There is a desperate search to discover effective therapies against coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19). Patients with human immunodeficiency virus/acquired syndrome (HIV/AIDS) comprise unique population whose clinical course may provide insights into the effects of antiretroviral therapy on COVID-19. We describe case patient HIV/AIDS left ventricular assist device support who was hospitalized and recovered from (Level Difficulty: Intermediate.)

Substantial survival benefits exist for patients with early-stage breast cancer who undergo treatment single-modality ovarian suppression, but its value is uncertain. Expert oncologist discussed to determine whether additional suppression plus multiple adjuvant therapy which provides a new option that reduces the risk of recurrence in early cancer. This expert group used data from published literature, practical experience and opinion large academic oncologists arrive at this consensus...

Among heart failure patients with implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs), monomorphic ventricular tachycardia (MMVT) failing antitachycardia pacing (ATP) and terminated by shock renders higher mortality as compared to MMVT ATP only. It is unknown if the in reflects decompensated failure. It was purpose of present study determine ICD diagnostics can predict need terminate MMVT.This a single-center retrospective review 103 consecutive Medtronic ICDs who had received therapy. Background: With better health care, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation has become possible for older patients. These patients have higher prevalence of diastolic dysfunction. However, it is not known if dysfunction an impact on prognosis these Methods: Retrospective data was obtained adults (>18 years) that underwent over a period 1991 - 2012 (22 years). Demographic, echocardiogrpahic and mortality were obtained. Cox proportional hazard model used to analyze as predictor mortality,...

135 Background: High-dose chemotherapy (HDCT) with autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) has been used as part of the treatment metastatic breast cancer. However, evidence behind this approach continues to be controversial. We hypothesize that previous radiation therapy (RT) may increase risk cardiomyopathy and mortality in these patients. Methods: Patients who underwent HSCT after HDCT for cancer during 1988-2012 were included. The patients indications other than matched 1:2...

Introduction: Extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR) may be considered for select cardiac arrest patients whom the suspected etiology of is potentially reversible. In adults, survival to discharge with ECPR reportedly 22% 33%, better outcomes in-hospital arrests. Outcomes depend on multiple factors including, location arrest, etiology, duration and quality CPR, time initiation ECMO, post-arrest management. There no consensus regarding patient selection or management these...
