Heterogeneous reaction of SO2 on mineral dust seems to be an important sink for SO2. However, kinetic data about this authentic are scarce and mainly limited low relative humidity (RH) conditions. In addition, little is known the role hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in reaction. Here, we investigated uptake kinetics three dusts (i.e., Asian (AMD), Tengger desert (TDD), Arizona test (ATD)) absence presence H2O2 at different RHs using a filter-based flow reactor, applied parameter (effectiveness...

Despite their crucial roles in health and climate concerns, the gas-particle partitioning of carbonyl compounds is poorly characterized ambient atmosphere. In this study, we investigate by simultaneously measuring six (formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, acetone, propionaldehyde, glyoxal, methylglyoxal) gas particle phase at an urban site Beijing. The field-derived coefficients (Kpf) are range 10–5–10–3 m3 μg–1, corresponding effective Henry's law (KHf) should be 107–109 M atm–1. Pankow's absorptive...

Abstract. Organic peroxides, important species in the atmosphere, promote secondary organic aerosol (SOA) aging, affect HOx radicals cycling, and cause adverse health effects. However, formation, gas-particle partitioning, evolution of peroxides are complicated still unclear. In this study, we investigated laboratory production partitioning from ozonolysis α-pinene, which is one major biogenic volatile compounds atmosphere an precursor for SOA at a global scale. We have determined molar...

Recent studies have shown that heterogeneous reactions of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) on aerosol surfaces may play an important role in tropospheric chemistry. The data concerning the kinetics and mechanisms these reactions, however, are quite scarce so far. Here, we investigated, for first time, gaseous H2O2 SiO2 α-Al2O3 particles, two major components mineral dust aerosol, using transmission-Fourier Transform Infrared (T-FTIR) spectroscopy, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). It is...

Abstract. Volatile organic compounds play an important role in air quality and climate change, largely because they contribute to the formation of oxidizing secondary aerosol (SOA). In this study, a series products, including peroxides carbonyl both gaseous particulate phases, were simultaneously detected investigate oxidation regime SOA composition limonene ozonolysis. The roles different double bonds (DBs), radicals, water also examined. our first investigation, we focused on...

Abstract. Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is a vital oxidant in the atmosphere and plays critical roles oxidation chemistry of both liquid aerosol phases. The partitioning H2O2 between gas phases, or phase, could affect its abundance these condensed phases eventually formation secondary components. However, processes gas-liquid gas-aerosol are still unclear, especially ambient atmosphere. In this study, field observations gas-, liquid-, aerosol-phase were carried out urban Beijing during summer...

Abstract. Stabilized Criegee intermediates (SCIs) have the potential to oxidize trace species and produce secondary organic aerosols (SOAs), making them important factors in tropospheric chemistry. This study quantitatively investigates performance of SCIs SOA formation at different relative humidity (RH) levels, first- second-generation oxidations endo- exocyclic double bonds ozonated limonene ozonolysis are studied separately. Environmental context. Carbonyl compounds, a class of oxygenated organic matter, are crucial participants in atmospheric processes. Recently, studies have shown that the aqueous-phase processes carbonyls an important contribution to formation secondary aerosol (SOA), which is considered significant impact on global climate change and human health. Abstract. Measurements of atmospheric peroxides were made during Wangdu Campaign 2014 at Wangdu, a rural site in the North China Plain (NCP) summer 2014. The predominant detected to be hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), methyl hydroperoxide (MHP) and peroxyacetic acid (PAA). observed H2O2 reached up 11.3 ppbv, which was highest value compared with previous observations time. As a major constituent of aromatic compounds, toluene exists widely in environmental aqueous phases. This research investigated the aqueous-phase OH oxidation to determine how liquid water changes radical chemistry ring-cleavage pathways. Results show that pathways through C7 bicyclic peroxy (BPR) account for about 70% total pathways, which is similar gas-phase oxidation. However, detailed phase change significantly compared with those gas as shown by decreased production glyoxal and...

The heterogeneous reactions of methacrolein (MAC) and methyl vinyl ketone (MVK) on α-Al2O3 surfaces have been studied in a flow reactor using transmission-Fourier Transform Infrared (T-FTIR) spectroscopy to monitor the reaction progress. Unlike SiO2 particles where MAC MVK are weakly physisorbed, results this work demonstrate that irreversibly adsorbed can rapidly react surface form various products such as aldehydes, organic acids, hydrogen peroxide, even higher molecular weight compounds....
