The aim of this study was to determine whether the levels serum inflammatory markers (C-reactive protein [CRP], interleukin-6 [IL-6], calprotectin, and N terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide [NT-proBNP]) predict severity outcome in children with peritonitis. primary objective evaluate profile these biomarkers secondary objectives were correlate level pediatric sequential organ failure assessment (pSOFA) score at admission (mortality). In prospective observational study, above peritonitis...
Background: The aim of this study was to determine the occurrence hypertension in students a medical college associated with tertiary care teaching hospital and identify risk factors group. Methods: Participants answered structured questionnaire underwent physical screening. Automated (Omron HEM-7121J) sphygmomanometers were used measure blood pressures. Standardised digital weighing scales weight. stadiometers height. Hypertension grades defined under European Society Cardiology...
Abstract Background: Although multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) may be associated with various mucocutaneous features, purpura fulminans (PF) has rarely been it children. Clinical Description: A 10-month-old female infant presented multiple ecchymotic patches on bilateral lower limbs and scalp gradually progressive over 5 months, fever irritability for days. On examination, she was alert, hemodynamically stable, severe pallor corneal opacity the left eye, along skin...

Sir, We read the article "First case of scrub typhus with meningoencephalitis from Kerala: An emerging infectious threat" by Saifudheen et al.[1] great interest. As stressed authors, is rampant in northern, eastern, and southern India. Kala-azar or visceral leishmaniasis is a disseminated protozoal infection caused by parasites of the genus Leishmania (Leishmania donovani in India). Conventional therapy for continues to be pentavalent antimony (sodium gluconate [SAG]). Amphotericin B widely used SAG-unresponsive cases and sometimes even as first-line drug, especially endemic areas. With conventional regimen SAG, cardiac toxicity has been reported 8% 17% with 5% 7% them having fatal toxicity. Cardiac uncommon amphotericin...
Aim The SARS‐CoV‐2 pandemic is characterised by multiple reports of paediatric multisystem inflammatory disease or syndrome in children (MIS‐C) with Kawasaki disease‐like features often complicated myocarditis, shock and macrophage activation syndrome. Certain clinical laboratory markers may be used to identify high risk cases. Methods All sequentially admitted patients hospitalised between April 2020 October 2020, who met the WHO case definition for MIS‐C were included. Data included...
Kasabach-Merritt phenomenon (KMP) is a life-threatening consumptive coagulopathy in the presence of rapidly enlarging vascular tumor. It usually presents early infancy, but onset neonatal period, facial hemangioma, and vincristine use neonates has rarely been reported. We, hereby, present 6-day-old male child presenting with hemangioma intracranial hemorrhage, KMP responding well to steroids vincristine. Pathophysiology disease various treatment options have discussed.
The objective of this study is to assess adherence antiretroviral therapy (ART) in HIV-infected children using the pill count method, and determine factors leading failure. Records 106 living with HIV (CLHIV) age <15 years on ART for >6 months were reviewed. Average by method over preceding six was calculated re-assessed 3-day recall method. caregivers 105 one child himself interviewed about problems encountered while giving ART. Median enrolled 104 (inter-quartile range [IQR] 77.3-133.8)...
Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD), originally described as sinus histiocytosis with massive lymphadenopathy, is a rare histiocytic proliferative disorder distinctive microscopic appearance. Formerly thought to be process limited lymph nodes, RDD has now been reported in many organ systems like bone, skin and soft tissue, central nervous system, eye orbit, upper respiratory tract. Here we report case of hepatic involvement, which even more rare.
Acute demyelinating encephalomyelitis (ADEM) usually occurs after viral infections or vaccination. Its occurrence Plasmodium vivax infection is extremely uncommon. We report the case of an 8-year-old girl who had choreo-athetoid movements and ataxia recovery from P.vivax infection. Diagnosis ADEM was made on basis magnetic resonance imaging findings. The child responded to corticosteroids with complete neurological recovery.
The association of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and myeloproliferative lymphoproliferative malignancies is widely reported. There scarce information available with regards to the SLE malignancy in children. Usually, precedes onset disease, but neoplasia can occur earlier or even simultaneously. are only five pediatric cases associated acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) reported literature. All these except one satisfied revised American College Rheumatology Criteria for SLE. Three...
We describe the magnetic resonance imaging findings of a 4 month old infant with hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia who developed heat stroke. Magnetic brain revealed signal alteration restricted diffusion in splenium corpus callosum, cerebral peduncles and cerebellar dentate nuclei.
Respiratory distress in an infant is a common cause of admission neonatal intensive care facility. Obstructive lesions the airway constitute minority problems new born but present diagnostic challenge. We 30-day-old male admitted with respiratory who was diagnosed to have oropharyngeal cystic mass which on further evaluation by computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed transalar transsphenoidal meningoencephalocele herniating into oral cavity through congenital split...
