Montmorillonite, a bioinert clay mineral, was examined as novel vector for an oral gene-delivery system. The complex of montmorillonite and plasmid DNA encoding the enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP) gene prepared at various weight ratios, then transfected into cultured intestinal epithelial cells (IEC-6) in vitro. EGFP clearly transcribed when transfection performed using montmorillonite–plasmid ratio 0.05:1. In contrast, no expression detected by reverse transcription-polymerase...

Phase relationships for FeS polymorph have been studied at the pressure of 16-20 GPa and temperature 300-1350 K by in situ X-ray observation using a large volume high-pressure apparatus synchrotron radiation. Contrary to Fei's prediction [1], we found stability field NiAs-type phase extending least 18 GPa. Results correspond with NiAs-hexagonal boundary determined Kusaba et al . [2, 3]. Assuming straight boundary, estimate that NiAs-hexagonal-liquid triple junction is located 39.5 2300 K.
