Our relapse rate is similar to that in a trial of nicotine patches (37% between years 1 and 3) 3 study using supportive counselling gum for 5 (40% 5). 4 High rates after year are also common those not attending treatment.A large general population survey estimated 35% from non-validated self reports the duration abstinence. Success or less follow up substantially overestimate lifelong cessation single treatment episode.Contributors: MAHR, GS, JAS designed original study, which GS...

Synopsis Recent studies have suggested that expanded CAG/CTG repeats contribute to the genetic aetiology of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. However, nature this contribution is uncertain difficult predict from other known trinucleotide repeat diseases display much simpler patterns inheritance. We sought replicate extend earlier findings using Repeat Expansion Detection in an enlarged sample 152 patients with schizophrenia, 143 disorder, 160 controls. also examined DNA parents 62 probands...

We have previously described a pedigree in which affective disorder and Darier's disease cosegregate and, an independent sample of 45 bipolar pedigrees, reported evidence support linkage between putative susceptibility locus for markers the region chromosome 12q23-q24.1. The maximum was given by polymorphism at gene encoding secretory phospholipase A2 (PLA2A), candidate disorder. Dawson et al. (Psychiatric Genetics, 5, 177–180) recently allelic association with same PLA2A 54 probands 56...

Background. Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) has been associated with increased prolactin (PRL) responses to the serotonin (5-HT) releasing agent fenfluramine. It is not known whether this abnormality due 5-HT release or heightened sensitivity of post-synaptic receptors. Methods. We measured increase in plasma PRL produced by directly acting receptor agonist, m-chlorophenylpiperazine (mCPP), patients CFS and healthy controls. also compared ability mCPP lower slow wave sleep (SWS) polysomnogram...

Congenital heart defects (CHDs) are the most common structural birth defect and present in 40-50% of children born with Down syndrome (DS). To characterize genetic architecture DS-associated CHD, we sequenced genomes a multiethnic group DS CHD (n=886: atrioventricular septal (AVSD), n=438; atrial (ASD), n=122; ventricular (VSD), n=170; other types n=156) structurally normal (DS+NH, n=572). We performed four GWAS for variants (MAF>0.05) comparing stratified by CHD-subtype, to DS+NH controls....

We report here a case study of 76-year-old woman with high school education, whose presenting psychiatric symptomatology indicated dementia unknown etiology. Neuropsychological test results were consistent AD, but diagnosis was complicated by an MRI showing large right hemisphere cortical infarct and scattered subcortical changes leading to possible AD. Electrocortical mapping showed the infarct, gave independent evidence suggestive AD in relatively intact left hemisphere. This demonstrates...
