The competition between nonmagnetic spin-Peierls (SP) and magnetic N\'eel ground states has been investigated in CuGe${\mathrm{O}}_{3}$ doped with Zn, Ni, Mn, Si. analysis of specific heat, ${C}_{p}$, data CuGe${\mathrm{O}}_{3}$, measured as a function field, supports SP transition at ${T}_{\mathrm{SP}}\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}14\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}\mathrm{K}$. replacement C${\mathrm{u}}^{2+}$ by Z${\mathrm{n}}^{2+}$, N${\mathrm{i}}^{2+}$, or...

Electronic structure calculations from first principles are employed to design half-metallic fully compensated ferrimagnets (or, as they widely known, antiferromagnets) susceptible of finding applications in spintronics. ${\mathrm{Cr}}_{2}\mathrm{Mn}Z$ $(Z=\mathrm{P},\mathrm{As},\mathrm{Sb},\mathrm{Bi})$ compounds have 24 valence electrons per unit cell and show that their total spin moment is approximately zero for a wide range lattice constants, agreement with the Slater-Pauling behavior...

Using a state-of-the-art full-potential electronic structure method within the local spin density approximation, we study and magnetic of Mn2V-based full Heusler alloys: Mn2VZ (Z = Al, Ga, In, Si, Ge Sn). We show that small expansion calculated theoretical equilibrium lattice constants restores half-metallic ferrimagnetism in these compounds. Moreover, degree disorder between V Z atoms, although it induces some states gap, preserves Slater–Pauling behaviour moments alloys keep high...

Half-metallic antiferromagnets are the ideal materials for spintronic applications since their zero magnetization leads to lower stray fields and thus tiny energy losses. Starting from ${\mathrm{Mn}}_{2}\mathrm{V}\mathrm{Al}$ ${\mathrm{Mn}}_{2}\mathrm{V}\mathrm{Si}$ alloys we substitute Co Fe Mn show by means of first-principles electronic structure calculations that resulting compounds ferrimagnets. When total number valence electrons reaches magic 24 Fe-doped semimetals nonmagnetic while...

Heusler alloys containing Co and Mn are amongst the most heavily studied half metallic ferromagnets for future applications in spintronics. Using state-of-the-art electronic structure calculations, we investigate effect of doping disorder on their magnetic properties. Small degrees by substituting Fe or Cr scarcely affect metallicity. A similar is also achieved mixing sublattices occupied sp atoms. Thus metallicity a robust property these alloys.

We expand our study of the full-Heusler compounds [I. Galanakis et al., Appl. Phys. The anomalous Hall effect in ultra-thin {Co0.3 nm/Pd0.5 nm}n multilayers has been investigated recently with respect to surface and interface contributions [Guo et al., Phys. Rev. Measurements of electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) at 9 and 35 GHz between 2 300 K in single crystals powder samples CuGeO3 are presented. Below 14 a large decrease the intensity Cu2+ EPR signal is observed. The data can be interpreted as due to spin-Peierls transition. However, an alternative interpretation terms simple structural transition cannot ruled out. An opening energy gap ∼25 calculated from analysis.
