An updated checklist of Mozambican marine brachyuran crabs is generated based on an exhaustive revision the existing literature, together with additional records provided by specimens collected throughout three MOZAMBIQUE surveys carried out in waters during consecutive years (20072009) Instituto Espaol de Oceanografa, (Spanish Institute Oceanography, IEO). A total 269 species, grouped 15 superfamilies, 26 families and 172 genera are reported checklist, a detailed inventory produced list...
This study constitutes a first contribution to the knowledge of ecology decapod crustaceans in waters off Guinea-Bissau. Samples were collected during survey undertaken between October and November 2008. A total 122 species identified. Results showed an increase biomass abundance with depth, reaching maxima values 200–500 m depth stratum but decreasing at depths over 500 m. Average diversity by strata increased maximum deep slope. Seven main assemblages identified: five primarily associated...
Ichthyoplankton samples and hydrological data were obtained in an inshore area, between the mouths of Rivers Guadalquivir Guadiana (Gulf Cádiz, SW Spain) during monthly surveys carried out from March 2002 to 2003. Horizontal temporal distributions wedge sole (Dicologlossa cuneata) egg larval abundances analysed this annual cycle relation environmental parameters. This area proved be important spawning nursery ground for species, which showed a winter-spring reproductive strategy with long...
The unique colour patterns of the hermit crab species inhabiting Iberian Peninsula and geographically close areas are studied based on observed in live specimens either field or laboratory. Live shown to be useful for differentiating Paguroidea from waters. Colour information has not been frequently documented previous studies, mainly because difficulties accessing specimens. Up 51 currently recorded within study area, 45 which included present work, focusing distinctive traits each that can...
The Collection of Decapod and Stomatopod Crustaceans from the Cádiz Oceanographic Centre (CCDE-IEOCD) comprises a number lithodid crabs Spanish surveys carried out in African waters. revision this material allowed confirmation new records Lithodesferox Filhol, 1885 Guinea-Bissau Mauritania, Lithodes mamillifer Macpherson, 1988 Mozambique, Neolithodes asperrimus Barnard, 1947, grimaldii (A. Milne Edwards & Bouvier, 1894) Paralomis erinacea africana 1982 Namibia cristulata Guinea-Bissau. Some...
This paper describes the hydrography and larval fish assemblage of Guinea Bissau waters, analyses spatial distribution main families in relation to oceanographic features area. Data were obtained during an survey, undertaken between October November 2008. In addition 98 demersal fishing hauls, a total 33 stations, located 20 1000 m depth, sampled for ichthyoplankton. showed that Guinea-Bissauan surface waters are characterized by strong thermohaline front flows parallel bathymetry Warm (SST...
Scientific advice on the concept of surplus, as defined by UNCLOS, was provided for three types Sustainable Fisheries Partnership Agreements (SFPAs): i) Mixed SFPAs in West Africa, ii) Tuna and iii) SFPA with Greenland. For methods surplus computation were defined, including alternatives cases data limited stocks. These may use input five parameters that could be obtained from those recent stocks assessments are representative current stock status. Surplus estimates would need to regularly...
