Abstract Purpose This paper studies the carbon footprint and water scarcity (WSF) of a milk protein, beta-lactoglobulin, produced by cellular agriculture compares this to extracted dairy protein from milk. The calculations microbially proteins were based on model hypothetical industrial-scale facility. purpose study is examine role relative in meeting future demand for more sustainably high nutritional quality. Methods evaluated process considers beta-lactoglobulin production bioreactor...
This paper describes modifications to improve the feasibility of a pre-combustion CCS concept for gas turbine combined cycle. A natural gas-fired greenfield heat and power (CHP) plant equipped with capture was used as base case, which various improvement options were identified, assessed selected. The case modified using selected options, after investment costs re-evaluated. results showed that cost can be reduced 8% by excluding pre-reformer low temperature water-gas-shift reactor from...
Chicory (Cichorium intybus L.) is an important industrial crop that produces large quantities of the dietary fiber inulin in its roots. Following extraction, bagasse typically used as animal feed, but it contains numerous bioactive secondary metabolites with potential applications healthcare and cosmetic products. Here we assessed antimicrobial properties chicory biomass pre-treated various enzymes alone combination to release compounds increase their bioavailability. We found pre-treatment...
The nitrogen oxide yield in a combustor burning an ammonia rich product gas from bubbling bed gasifier has been investigated. measurements showed surprisingly small effect of the excess air on NOx emissions. To understand reason for this behaviour chemistry studied using CFD combined with detailed description fuel-N chemistry. With higher oxygen 22% is calculated compared to measured 21%. In case lower corresponding numbers are 20% and 18%, respectively.
Biogenic CO2 converted into hydrocarbons with renewable electricity can simultaneously provide raw materials and fuels, a positive climate impact healthy business. Integrated capture utilisation (CCU) options benefit from local source substantially reducing the transportation costs, energy integration possibility to utilise produced fuels chemicals on-site. The key objective of this paper is find feasible pathways for biogenic in biomass driven industry sectors. study includes...
Membrane-based concept comprising microfiltration and nanofiltration pre-treatments, reverse osmosis pre-concentration, membrane distillation used for final concentration was applied producing purified concentrated recycled deicing fluid. Additionally, a techno-economic assessment conducted to determine the economic viability of recycling concept. By straightforward membrane-based concept, ∼95% solid colloidal impurities together with certain fluid additives such as colorants surfactants...
