Abstract Microalgae are promising biocatalysts for applications in sustainable fuel, food, and chemical production. Here, we describe culture collection screening, down-selection, development of a high-productivity, halophilic, thermotolerant microalga, Picochlorum renovo . This microalga displays rapid growth rate high diel biomass productivity (34 g m −2 day −1 ), with composition well-suited downstream processing. P. exhibits broad salinity tolerance (growth at 107.5 L salinity)...

Our goal was to explore the accuracy and utility of identifying removing PCR duplicates from HTS data using Super Deduper. Deduper is a pre-alignment, sequence read based technique developed at University Idaho, which examines uses only small portion each read's in order identify remove and/or optical duplicates. Through comparisons with well-known pre- post-alignment techniques, Deduper's parameters were optimized its performance assessed. The results conclude that viable pre-alignment...

High-throughput analysis of biomass is necessary to ensure consistent and uniform feedstocks for agricultural bioenergy applications needed inform genomics systems biology models. Pyrolysis followed by mass spectrometry such as molecular beam (py-MBMS) analyses are becoming increasingly popular the rapid cell wall composition typically require use different data tools depending on need application. Here, authors report py-MBMS several types lignocellulosic gain an understanding spectral...

Artificial microRNA (amiRNA) sequences embedded in natural (miRNA) backbones have proven to be useful tools for RNA interference (RNAi). amiRNAs reduced off-target and toxic effects compared other RNAi-based methods such as short-hairpin RNAs (shRNA). are often less effective knockdown, however, their shRNA counterparts. We screened a large empirically-designed amiRNA set the synthetic inhibitory BIC/miR-155 (SIBR) scaffold show common structural sequence-specific features associated with...

Abstract The larvae of click beetles (Coleoptera: Elateridae), known as “wireworms,” are agricultural pests that pose a substantial economic threat worldwide. We produced one the first wireworm genome assemblies ( Limonius californicus ), and investigated population structure phylogenetic relationships three species L. californicus, infuscatus, canus ) across northwest US southwest Canada using genome-wide markers (RADseq) skimming. found two infuscatus comprised multiple genetically...

Analysis time and storage space are critical bottlenecks when analyzing multi-sample, comparative high throughput sequence experiments. The experimental High Throughput Sequencing (expHTS) pipeline mitigates these by streaming external application data, speeding analysis, reducing eliminating intermediate, un-analyzed files. This creates faster run times, less on the machine, improves uniformity of sample analysis.
