Heavy metals are part of the chemical elements found in air, water and soil; they used to produce various materials, energy, even fertilizers, medicines, food. However, small quantities can be toxic humans organisms. Arsenic, cadmium, mercury, lead stand out as some most dangerous human health. In aquatic environment, bivalve mollusks such oysters, clams, mussels accumulate heavy their tissues when filtering water, representing a potential source toxicity for those who consume them. Due...

The blood cockle Larkinia grandis is a commercially important resource in the Gulf of California, but little information available on this species. In study, interactions between body weight (BW) and shell length (SL), height (SH), width (SW) were evaluated L. population Mexico. Eighty cockles hand-picked monthly from August 2017 to July 2018 near and/or under mangrove trees southeastern coast California. range measurements (SL = 142.00–44.57 mm, SH 85.50–31.15 SW 76.56–32.03 mm) indicates...

The morphometric relationships of the siphon clam Panopea globosa from Sinaloa, Mexico, were analyzed February 2014 to April 2015. A total 370 specimens collected, measured (shell length, width, and height) weighed (body weight, tissue shell weight). coefficient determination indicated variation in fitting variables among traits. type relative growth for all was negative allometry. This is first report on P. Mexico.

Larkinia grandis (Broderip & G.B. Sowerby I, 1829), an important fishing resource for Mexican communities, is Arcidae clam. It also considered a species with aquaculture potential. In this work we investigated the gonadal phases and sexuality in population of L. Gulf California. Our findings support hypothesis that there one male per female studied. documents shape, position color gonads are consistent observations other species. Additionally, five differentiated described males...

Abstract Mercury (Hg) and selenium (Se) concentrations in the soft tissue of oysters Saccostrea palmula Crassostrea corteziensis from four coastal lagoons (Altata, Macapule, Navachiste, El Colorado) Northwest Mexico were determined. A total 2520 specimens S. 3780 C. (72.15 ± 4.95 73.57 5.31 mm, respectively) sampled seasonally summer 2019 to spring 2020. The higher Hg concentration (wet weight) for (0.13 0.03–0.11 0.02 µg g −1 ) (0.12 0.02–0.11 0.03 obtained summer−autumn 2019; level was...
