Water is characterized by large molecular electric dipole moments and strong interactions between molecules; however, hydrogen bonds screen the dipole-dipole coupling suppress ferroelectric order. The situation changes drastically when water confined: in this case ordering of dipoles has been predicted, but never unambiguously detected experimentally. Abstract The transformation of Mn II glycolates (glc) between the three‐dimensional coordination polymer [Mn(glc) 2 ] n ( 1 ) and discrete mononuclear phase (H O) can be reversibly switched by water molecules, which dramatically change magnetocaloric effect (MCE) from maximum 6.9 J kg −1 K in to 60.3 . This case example reveals that magnetic coupling on MCE plays a dominant role over other factors such as density for 3d‐type refrigerants.
