Traditionally, mutagenesis has been used to introduce novel genetic variability in ornamental crops. More recently, it become a powerful tool gene discovery and functional analyses reverse genetics approaches. The present work aimed compare the efficiency of physical chemical agents generating mutant populations petunia. We have indirectly evaluated genomic damage by analyzing developmental characteristics plantlets derived from treated seeds employing gamma radiation at 0, 20, 40, 60, 80...

Abstract The aryloxyphenoxypropionate herbicides ( APP s) are graminicides with excellent control of many grass weeds species, including weedy rice Oryza sativa L.). These block the fatty acid biosynthesis by inhibiting enzyme acetyl‐CoA carboxylase ACC ase), resulting in death susceptible plants. Inducing mutation gamma rays to seeds, two lines resistant s were developed. Plant dose–response assays confirmed resistance APPS quizalofop‐p‐ethyl and haloxyfop‐p‐methyl. carboxyltransferase...

Tomato is a good example of successful use mutations affecting major genes for plant breeding, which are also valuable gene discovery and physiological studies. However, mutant alleles only currently known an insignificant fraction the about 35,000 in tomato genome. Large scale mutagenesis introgression natural genetic variation from wild Lycopersicon species into model system, such as ‘Micro-Tom’ (MT), can be useful to fill this gap. MT has advantages little space requirements rapid cycle....

One of the major difficulties in studies on selection heavy metal tolerant plants is proper methodology that must ensure an efficient evaluation a large number plants, but reducing environmental contamination. For this reason, we propose simple and effective method can be applied to metals or other chemicals by means case study, which selected two cadmium-tolerant mutants tomato (cv Micro-Tom) obtained mutagenesis with methyl ethanesulfonate (MES). Aside from these new mutants, 21 others...

Fig breeding programs through conventional methods are rare in many countries, e.g. Brazil, since the wasp Blastophaga psenes, which is responsible for natural pollination, not present. For these cases a low cost alternative program induction of physical mutagenesis by radiation. The sensivity fig explant buds different sizes to gamma radiation were evaluated. plantlets "Roxo de Valinhos" already established vitro classified size 2.5 4.5 cm, 5 9 7 cm and 8 10 long, irradiated with: 10, 20,...

The new rice cultivar, SCS118 Marques, was obtained through gamma irradiation of SCSBRS Tio Taka cultivar. Marques presents modern architecture, lodging resistance, late maturity cycle, moderate resistance to blast, high yield potential, long grains and very cooking quality. Industrial tests performed with showed that are suitable for parboiling white rice, it is recommended all rice-producing regions Santa Catarina.

Garlic cultivars are sexually sterile under standard growth conditions, with direct implications for commercial production costs as well breeding programs. is propagated commercially via bulblets, which facilitates disease transmission and virus load accumulation over vegetative generations. Tissue culture produces virus-free clones that more productive, while keeping the desired traits of cultivar. Consequently, this technique allows studies garlic genetics guarantees genetic conservation...

A plant regeneration method with cell suspension cultures of banana, and the effect biobalistic on potential are described in this report. Somatic embryos banana were obtained from indirect embryogenesis male inflorescence cultivar Maçã (AAB group). Part calluses formed (40%) showed embryogenic characteristics (nonfriable, compact yellow color). The suspension, originated calluses, contained clusters small tightly packed cells dense cytoplasms, relatively large nuclei very nucleoli. After...
