Functional integration is an inherent characteristic for multiscale structures of biological materials. In this contribution, we first investigate the liquid-solid adhesive forces between water droplets and superhydrophobic gecko feet using a high-sensitivity micro-electromechanical balance system. It was found, in addition to well-known solid-solid adhesion, foot, with structure, possesses both functionality high force towards water. The origin could be attributed density nanopillars that...

Ceramic/polymer composite equipped with 3D interlocking skeleton (3D IL) is developed through a simple freeze-casting method, exhibiting exceptionally light weight, high strength, toughness, and shock resistance. Long-range crack energy dissipation enabled by structure considered as the primary reinforcing mechanism for such superior properties. The smart design strategy should hold place in developing future structural engineering materials.

Particulate matter (PM) pollution is a serious threat to human health. Zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) kind of metal-organic framework, and ZIF-8 not only can capture PM2.5 efficiently but also possesses excellent chemical thermal stability. In this study, ZIF-8-modified soluble polyimide (PI) nanofibrous membranes were prepared via an electrospinning process. As result, the PI-ZIF membrane shows high filtration efficiency (up 96.6 ± 2.9%), superior stability 300 °C), good...

Superhydrophobic surface with high solid/liquid adhesion is of great fundamental and technological importance. However, the fabrication adhesive superhydrophobic polymer surfaces stability rare, which limits utilization such in harsh environments. This paper illustrates a simple electrospinning way to produce fluorinated polyimide nanofibric mat superhydrophobicity as well thermal stability. The water contact angle on reaches 157.8° force drop up 98.3 μN. Moreover, able stand extreme heat...

Paraffin deposition is a severe global problem during crude oil production and transportation. To inhibit the formation of paraffin deposits, commonly used methods are mechanical cleaning, coating pipe to provide smooth surface reduce adhesion, electric heating, ultrasonic microbial treatments, use inhibitors, etc. Pipeline coatings not only have advantages simple preparation broad applications, but also maintain long-term efficient stable effect. In recent years, important progress has been...

Abstract The so called inverted pyramid arrays, outperforming conventional upright textures, have been successfully achieved by one-step Cu assisted chemical etching (CACE) for light reflection minimization in silicon solar cells. Due to the lower reduction potential of 2+ /Cu and different electronic properties Si planes, substrate shows orientation-dependent. Different from obtained alkaline solutions, formation results coexistence anisotropic localized process. structure is bounded {111}...

Background Many plants, including those commonly found in the Fagaceae family, produce more flowers and ovules than mature fruits seeds. In Castanea henryi , an ovary contains 16–24 ovules, but only one develops into a seed. The other abort or otherwise fail to fully develop, reason for this is unknown. Such strict reproductive screening mechanism rare plants. Methods study, controlled pollination scheme were adopted, conventional paraffin embedding semi-thin sectioning techniques, followed...
