Ecuador is one of the most biodiverse countries in world, but faces severe pressures and threats to its natural ecosystems. Numerous species have declined require be objectively evaluated quantified, as a step towards development conservation strategies. Herein, we present an updated National Red List Assessment for amphibian Ecuador, with detailed complete coverages any Ecuadorian taxonomic group date. Based on standardized methodologies that integrate work, spatial analyses, ecological...
Abstract Background In species with complex life cycles, size at metamorphosis is a key life-history trait which reflects the interactions between costs and benefits of in aquatic terrestrial environments. Whereas effects deteriorating larval habitat (e.g. pond desiccation) on triggering an early have been extensively investigated amphibians, consequences resulting reduced fitness post-metamorphic stage remain poorly understood. We tested hypothesis that smaller negatively affects...
<title>Abstract</title> Environmental DNA (eDNA) metabarcoding is an emerging and versatile tool in biodiversity research. With recent advances field sampling techniques, this approach becomes increasingly suited for application tropical ecosystems where monitoring gaps remain significant species detection particularly challenging. Using amphibians as a model, we demonstrate the efficiency of eDNA 52 localities Tropical Andean hotspot to rapidly trace elusive, threatened, or ‘lost’ baseline...

Doi.: 10.7818/ECOS.2016.25-2.03 region is considered one most important global areas for both threatened and endemic species. Species richness has been well documented; however, detailed information still lacking hindering...
Abstract Given widespread habitat degradation and loss, reliable indicators are needed that provide a comprehensive assessment of community response to anthropogenic disturbance. The family Phyllostomidae (Order Chiroptera) has frequently been the focus research evaluating bats’ disturbance in seasonally dry tropical forests (SDTFs). However, few studies compare this larger bat assemblage assess its efficacy as bioindicator. We compared species-specific attributes understory phyllostomid all...
Abra de Zamora is an important biodiversity hotspot in southern Ecuador. Between 1938 and 2010, eleven species of frogs were described from here: Lynchius flavomaculatus, Gastrotheca psychrophila, Pristimantis balionotus, P. colodactylus, cryptomelas, percultus, versicolor, vidua, Telmatobius cirrhacelis, andinognomus, Atelopus podocarpus. Unfortunately, many these not re-encountered after their original description, for the majority DNA samples available, making phylogenetic position...

Doi.: 10.7818/ECOS.2016.25-2.04 Reserve (Reserva Ecológica - REA) is located in southwestern Ecuador, close to the Peruvian border, and belongs Tumbesian Endemism Region one of last remnants forests at altitudes below 100 m a.s.l. Climate characterized by rainy season extending January May June December. Few studies...
Seasonally dry forests (SDFs) are one of the most challenging ecosystems for amphibians, fueling diversity this group vertebrates. An updated inventory native amphibians present in Equatorial SDF is provided, which extends along Pacific coast Ecuador and northwestern Peru. The study based on an extensive field sampling (two thirds total records) carried out throughout SDF, with a compilation available information distribution region from published scientific papers, museum collections...
Presentamos datos actualizados sobre la distribución de 20 especies aves del Ecuador, 16 estas registradas por primera ocasión dentro hoya Loja, valle inter-Andino sur país: Podilymbus podiceps, Phalacrocorax brasilianus, Butorides striata, Bubulcus ibis, Ardea alba, Chondrohierax uncinatus, Rupornis magnirostris, Gallinula galeata, Megascops roboratus, Megaceryle torquata, Aulacorhynchus prasinus, Forpus coelestis, Psittacara erythrogenys, Grallaria guatimalensis, Pitangus sulphuratus,...

We review the species content of Pristimantis orestes group and, by integrating genetic and morphological data, we distinguish describe three new cryptic from subpáramos southern Ecuadorian Andes. Genetically, these are most related to P. matildae other colodactylus subgroup; however, in morphology, they strikingly different them, especially terms shape body, having less-compressed heads bodies. Additionally, differ their ecology, arboreal habits contrast with bromeliad specialist sister...
We describe a new rainfrog species (Pristimantis), from the wetland complex Oña, Nabón, Saraguro and Yacuambi, in Andes of southern Ecuador, at altitudes ranging between 3000–3400 m a.s.l. Pristimantis tiktik sp. nov. is small frog, displaying sexual dimorphism (the males with dorsum various shades gray, brown, orange or green whitish pinkish yellow venter; females brownish gray reticulated white black venter), SVL 19.7–20.4 mm (n = 3) 16.1–18.4 6). The skin on tuberculated, that venter...
We describe a new species of rain frog the genus Pristimantis from city Loja, Southern Ecuador, based on an integrative taxonomy approach, combining molecular, morphological and bioacoustics data. lojanus sp. nov. is medium sized phylogenetically strongly supported P . phoxocephalus group, its sister torresi The can be easily distinguished closest congeners morphologically similar (that also have acuminate snout with fleshy keel) by characteristic advertisement call features (dorsum finely...
We report the first provincial records for Rhaebo ecuadorensis Mueses-Cisneros, Cisneros-Heredia & McDiarmid, 2012,and Phyllomedusa tarsius (Cope, 1868) in Zamora-Chinchipe, southern Ecuador. The new locations are significant because they represent southernmost Ecuador as well westernmost limits of ranges these two species.

We present the first records of Red-ruffed Fruitcrow, Pyroderus scutatus (Shaw, 1792), in Cordillera del Cóndor Ecuador and confirmed this species east country. These new were made October 2016 February September 2017 Blanco river basin southeastern Ecuador. This place is 200 km over 500 from nearest occurrences Peru Ecuador, respectively. can now confirm presence subspecies P. s. masoni (Ridgway, 1886)
