The Xsens Link motion capture suit has become a popular tool in investigating 3D running kinematics based on wearable inertial measurement units outside of the laboratory. In this study, we investigated reliability Xsens-based lower extremity joint angles during unconstrained stable (asphalt) and unstable (woodchip) surfaces within between five different testing days group 17 recreational runners (8 female, 9 male). Specifically, determined within-day between-day intraclass correlation...
Purpose (A) To quantify differences in lower extremity joint kinematics for groups of runners subjected to different running footwear conditions, and (B) on an individual basis conditions. Methods Three-dimensional ankle knee were collected 35 heel–toe when wearing three shoes barefoot. Absolute mean computed between shoe The percentage who displayed below a 2°, 3°, 5° threshold also calculated. Results results indicate that the joints similar Aside from dorsiflexion flexion, maintaining...
Abstract Knee ligament sprains are common during change-of-direction (COD) maneuvers in multidirectional team sports. This study aimed to compare the effects of an 8-week injury prevention exercise program containing COD-specific exercises and a similar linear sprint on injury- performance-related variables 135° COD task. We hypothesized that training would lead (H1) stronger reductions biomechanical associated with anterior cruciate (ACL) risk COD, i.e. knee abduction moment angle, hip...
Providing runners with footwear that match their functional needs has the potential to improve comfort, enhance running performance and reduce risk of overuse injuries. It is currently not known how experts make decisions about different shoe features properties for levels. We performed a Delphi study in order understand: 1) definitions runner levels, 2) which are considered important 3) these should be prescribed Experienced academics, journalists, coaches, bloggers physicians examine...
Abstract In spite of having been the object considerable attention, histopathological grading oligodendrogliomas is still controversial. The determination reliable biomarkers capable improving malignancy remains an essential step in working toward better therapeutic management patients. Therefore metabolome 34 human brain biopsies, histopathologically classified as low‐grade (LGO, N = 10) and high‐grade (HGO, 24) oligodendrogliomas, was studied using high‐resolution magic angle spinning...
In the last 40 years, scientific debate around running injuries and shoes has been dominated by two paradigms, ‘impact’ ‘pronation’ paradigms. However, development of shoe technologies aimed at reducing impact forces pronation not led to a decline running-related injuries. This article recommends abandon paradigms due lack biomechanical epidemiological evidence instead suggests shift new paradigms: ‘Muscle tuning’ ‘preferred movement path’. These represent approaches understanding patterns...
Footwear science research has seen a roughly 10-fold increase in publications over the last 20 years. This commentary will focus on three primary themes of this time frame: methodological developments, running-related injuries, and performance. Within each theme, we summarise knowledge generated through substantial couple decades. The developments highlight both improvements data analysis techniques as well changes how measure variables interest. Running-related injury prediction paradigms...
Discriminating Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) from dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) may be clinically difficult to achieve. The authors describe 10 patients DLB initially referred the French Network of Human Spongiform Encephalopathies as having suspected CJD. In a series 465 autopsied cases, ranked second among degenerative alternative diagnoses analyzed factors that contributed misleading diagnosis, and suggest detection 14-3-3 protein in CSF useful distinguish CJD DLB.
Purpose To wavelet transform the electromyograms of vastii muscles and generate intensity patterns (WIP) runners. Test hypotheses: 1) The WIP vastus medialis (VM) lateralis (VL) one step are more similar than WIPs these two muscles, offset by step. 2) within muscle differ having maximal intensities in specific frequency bands not always occurring at same time after heel strike. 3) that were recorded form for all steps while running can be grouped into clusters with WIPs. It is expected might...
One patient of a French family with Gerstmann-Sträussler-Scheinker syndrome the mutation in codon 117 prion protein (PrP) gene displayed unexpected neuritic degeneration around PrP plaques and numerous diffuse neurofibrillary tangles, whereas other members did not. The tau profile this patient's brain was analysed compared one from another member as well Alzheimer's profile. A panel characterised antibodies against both normal paired helical filaments-tau used on immunoblots proteins...
Purpose Motor unit activity is coordinated between many synergistic muscle pairs but the functional role of this coordination for motor output unclear. The purpose study was to investigate short-term modality activity–the synchronized discharge individual units across muscles within time intervals 5ms–for Vastus Medialis (VM) and Lateralis (VL). Furthermore, we studied task-dependency intermuscular synchronization VM VL during static dynamic squatting tasks provide insight into its role....
To determine the effect of shoe mass on performance in basketball-specific movements and how this affects changes if an athlete is aware or not shoe's relative to other shoes. In experimental design, 22 male participants were assigned 2 groups. In "aware" group, differences shoes disclosed, while group blinded shoes. For both groups lateral shuffle-cut vertical-jump performances quantified 3 different basketball-shoe conditions (light, 352 ± 18.4 g; medium, 510 17 heavy, 637 17.7 g). A mixed...
Introduction: The vasti muscles have to work in concert control knee joint motion during movements like walking, running, or squatting. Coherence analysis between surface electromyography (EMG) signals is a common technique study muscle synchronization such and gain insight into strategies of the central nervous system optimize neuromuscular performance. However, different assessment methods related EMG data acquisition, e.g. electrode configurations amplifier technologies, produced...
Blood—brain barrier permeability in myelin basic protein (MBP)-specific T cell induced experimental allergic encephalomyelitis (EAE) was studied by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) Lewis rats. Myelin protein-specific cells of different specificity and/or purified derivative (PPD)-specific were used. During the course EAE, volume lesions and T1 T2 relaxation times recorded evaluated with respect to clinical signs. The results showed that severity abnormalities seen on MRI, corresponding...
There is a sex bias for common overuse running injuries that are associated with sex-specific hip kinematics. Gait retraining programs aimed at altering kinematics may be more efficient if they incorporated an understanding of how correlated the movement remaining body segments. We applied principal component analysis to structure whole-body 23 runners (12 ♀) into k = 12 movements (PM ), describing patterns upper and lower movements. compared time-dependent amplitudes respect each PM between...
Footwear comfort is an important factor in design, purchase and use of running shoes but current measures require multiple subjective assessments. Therefore, objective more reliable surrogate measure footwear would be high relevance. In other research fields, perceived was found to influence the variability movement execution. Consequently, purpose this study investigate on kinematics as a potential comfort. Thirty-six recreational athletes ran five different indoor track while their were...
A phenomenon called adolescent awkwardness is believed to alter motor control, but underlying mechanisms remain largely unclear. Since adolescents undergo neurological and anthropometrical changes during this developmental phase, we hypothesized that control their movements less tightly use a different coordinative structure compared adults. Moreover, tested if emerging differences were driven by body height alterations between age groups. Using 39 reflective markers, postural tandem stance...
