Chomsky (1973) attributes the island status of nominal subjects to Subject Condition, a constraint specific subjects. English and Spanish are interesting languages for comparative study extraction from subjects, because in predominantly preverbal, whereas they can be either preverbal or postverbal. In this work I explore the different discourse–syntax interface properties of focus fronting in Standard Spanish (SS) and Southern Peninsular (SPS) including Andalusian Extremaduran varieties. Generally, it has been argued that IF tends occur last a sentence since new information placed final position, following End-Focus Principle as well Nuclear Stress (Zubizarreta 1998). fronting hence reserved for those cases which clear contrast between two alternatives established, namely Contrastive (CF) Mirative...

Abstract This article explores the acceptability and interpretation of referential null subjects in several varieties Spanish (both Peninsular American varieties) different syntactic contexts (matrix embedded) distinct clause types (under bridge verbs, under factive adverbial clauses). Based on results an original online survey, completed by almost 300 respondents all over world, it is shown that, contrast with a consistent‐ pro ‐drop language like Italian, some exhibit partial‐ properties;...

In this paper a novel view of the distribution null subjects in Spanish is explored which discourse category antecedent pro analysed. Implementing Frascarelli’s (2007) work, I propose that crucial condition to meet for subject be coreferential with an Aboutness-Shift Topic, must either explicit or copy local domain where inserted. When null, can refer back any type category. The analysis supported by experiment run among native speakers Spanish.

This work deals with root transformations (RTs) such as negative preposing in English and Spanish. I claim that RTs may principle be compatible all types of embedded clauses, regardless whether the selecting predicate is factive/non-asserted or non-factive/asserted.  Languages differ how freely they allow various complements.
