During September-December 2020, we conducted a multicenter retrospective study across India to evaluate epidemiology and outcomes among cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19)-associated mucormycosis (CAM). Among 287 patients, 187 (65.2%) had CAM; CAM prevalence was 0.27% hospitalized COVID-19 patients. We noted 2.1-fold rise in during the period compared with 2019. Uncontrolled diabetes mellitus most common underlying non-CAM only 32.6% COVID-19-related hypoxemia improper glucocorticoid use...
There are limited data regarding the incidence of pneumothorax in COVID-19 patients as well impact same on patient outcomes. A retrospective review medical records at three large tertiary care hospitals Mumbai was performed to identify hospitalised with from March 2020 October 2020. The presence and/or pneumomediastinum noted when chest radiographs or CT scans were performed. Demographic and clinical characteristics who developed air leak recorded. 4,906 admitted, 1,324 (27%) having severe...
Cerebral phaeohyphomycosis (CP) is a rare but highly morbid fungal infection of the central nervous system caused by fungi belonging to order Chaetothyriales, which includes Cladophialophora bantiana, Exophiala dermatitidis, Rhinocladiella mackenziei (RM) etc. This disease associated with poor clinical outcomes, reported mortality over 80%. We present case 65-year gentleman who developed CP secondary RM following COVID-19 and challenges in his medical surgical management.
Osteomyelitis is rarely caused by fungi, most common among them being Candida. Aspergillus a rare cause of fungal osteomyelitis mimics tuberculous osteomyelitis. (AO) the ribs relatively uncommon, with an incidence rate only 9% all reported cases AO. With mortality rates almost 25%, AO on rise attributed to increasing numbers immunocompromised individuals. There are very few case reports in immunocompetent We report two such cases.Case 1: A 51-year-old male developed spontaneous chest pain...
Tuberculosis involving the central nervous system is a treacherous disease. Resistant TB, vasculitis, raised intracranial pressure, and paradoxical response add to problems faced by patient. Adverse effects of drugs, interactions, uncertainties in management mean that multidisciplinary approach infectious diseases physician, neurologist, microbiologist needed for optimal management.
Abstract Poster session 1, September 21, 2022, 12:30 PM - 1:30 Background COVID-19 has opened a pandora's box of opportunistic infections and immune alteration. We hereby present series patients with recurrent fungal urinary tract triggered by an episode COVID-19. Description Case 1: A 66-year-old male, diabetic, known chronic kidney disease, had moderate in 2020 needing remdesivir steroids; 2 months later, he was treated for UTI elsewhere. In May 2021, presented right-sided pyelonephritis,...

Antimicrobial resistance in Gram-negative organism is a global problem. There an increased interest Fosfomycin due to its attractive PK/PD properties. The present study aimed examine the effectiveness and safety of IV which has been recently licensed India. We retrospectively studied patients who received from January 2017 February 2018. Patients with proven or suspected sepsis given were included study. Clinical, microbiological outcome, adverse reactions noted. 27 fosfomycin. Of these 6...
A young Indian man presented elsewhere with a short history of haematuria and cough. Investigations revealed renal pulmonary lesions. Histopathology these lesions was reported as mucormycosis. He consulted us two months after onset symptoms, asymptomatic clinically well, having received no treatment. Abstract Poster session 2, September 22, 2022, 12:30 PM - 1:30 Two cases of Rhinocladiella mackenziei have been noted in our institute, the first case 2015 (post-renal transplant) and second 2021 (post-COVID infection). Both patients had received immunosuppressants for varying duration. presented to hospital with neurological deficit secondary brain abscess. On initial assessment, melanized fungus was which later identified as on culture further confirmed molecular methods. were treated...
