Thermomineral springs are unique aquatic habitats characterized by high temperatures or mineral-rich water and often host specialized microbial communities. In Serbia, these represent an important but under-researched ecological resource whose diverse physicochemical properties shaped their geological context. this study, the physical chemical of Serbian thermomineral relationship with phototrophic communities in different substrates investigated. Phototrophic biofilms were categorized into...
Biofilm on the sandstone substrata of bridge 'Brankov most' and granite 'Monument Unknown Hero' contains a complex consortia cyanobacteria, algae, fungi. Coccoid filamentous green algae diatoms make up photosynthetic part biofilm while hyphal fragments, chlamydospores, fruiting bodies spores take as fungal components. These structures dense layer by intertwining overlapping stone surface. Five cyanobacterial, 11 algal 23 taxa were found. The interaction biofilm's constituents results in...
Biological assessment metrics and water chemistry measurements are used to quantify the link between stressors their effects on lake ecosystems, for Water Framework Directive. However, correlations often poor. This is seen as major weaknesses of Directive-related monitoring assessment. We analyzed macrophytes, benthic algae, macroinvertebrates, sediment total phosphorus content in littoral six lakes Western Balkans CORINE land use data estimate nutrient enrichment via runoff from adjacent...
Abstract The main objective of this study was to assess the ecological status Mlava River based on epilithic diatoms and test use diatom indices as a tool for estimating quality flowing waters in Serbia. Quantitative analysis showed that April Achnanthidium minutissimum dominant at each site, except fifth where Amphora pediculus dominant. In July September, minutissimum, pyrenaicum , Denticula tenuis Diatoma vulgaris Gomphonema elegantissimum Cocconeis pseudolineata placentula var. lineata...
Aerophytic phototrophs, colonizers of different substrates exposed to air, among which are rock in cave habitats, general not sufficiently investigated and studied. From the ecological point view, seasonal/temporal variations parameters that influence aerophytic phototrophic communities through seasons still remain largely unknown. Seasonal analysis microorganisms from biofilms developed at entrances Samar Jezava caves Eastern Serbia was performed four times a year. All identified...
The main aim of this study was to investigate the application benthic diatoms and efficiency diatom indices in water ecological assessment rivers Serbia, as well influence trout farms on quality. Research conducted one year period along Crnica Radovanska (Eastern Serbia), 11 sampling sites (taking into account position fish that are built both rivers). Results showed affect physical chemical parameters, diversity epilithic assemblage rivers. Canonical correspondence analysis (CCA) indicated...

Abstract Substrate specificity of the periphyton community is usually underestimated in both ecology and biomonitoring studies, thus different kinds natural artificial substrates (of organic inorganic origin) are employed. Periphyton colonization successional trajectories particularly debatable processes when considered. In our field experiment, we deployed four (two ones – glass ceramic, two willow yew wooden tiles) for development an urban reservoir referred to as Lake Savsko (Belgrade,...

Energy of running water accounts for almost 3/4 the global supply renewable energy sources and 1/5 total electricity generation. Large small hydropower plants are associated with a number environmental problems. The main aim this study is to investigate impact SHP on diatom community. A 149 taxa classified in 47 genera were identified, some which considered invasive (Achnanthidium druartii), rare (Gomphonema zellense, Frustulia amphipleuroides) Navicula radiosafallax first finding Serbia....
The main objective of this paper is to report the diatom taxa identified from Nisava River and its tributaries, Jerma Temska rivers. study area included 11 sampling sites along River, with one site on River. Monthly samples (from stones, sediments macrophytes) were collected May 2008 2009. Diatom frustules cleaned chemical agents, mounted permanent slides. In total, 194 identified. most species rich genera are Navicula (25), Nitzschia (17) Gomphonema (13), while other presented or more...
The main objective of this paper is to report the desmid taxa identified from four Serbian peat bogs: Pester, Daic Lake on Mt. Golija, Crvene pode Tara and Horgos. Samples were collected in period 2007 2011. In total, 220 22 genera identified. most species-rich are Cosmarium (81), Staurastrum (38) Closterium (31). Of total number, 66 new for flora.
The distribution of diatoms was studied in three types diatom communities (epiphytes, benthos and plankton) a peat bog on the Pester plateau. observed flora inhabited all investigated communities, comprising total 250 taxa 53 genera. Among them, 45 were new records for Serbian flora. Identified belonged to different groups algae, however alkaliphile dominant. New ecological data Encyonopsis minuta, Pinnularia isostauron P. marchica are presented here. All documented by light micrographs,...
Abstract Epilithic diatoms from the Vrla River (Serbia) have been used to assess ecological status of water. A total 227 diatom taxa belonging 50 genera were identified in during six research seasons with 13 dominant species recorded. Gomphonema (30 species), Navicula (28) and Nitzschia (26) most species-rich genera, followed by Pinnularia (12) Encyonema (11). One was recorded as new Serbia – Geissleria acceptata . CCA grouped into three main groups. The first group included found at...
