Cross-linked azobenzene liquid-crystalline polymer films with a poly(oxyethylene) backbone are synthesized by photoinitiated cationic copolymerization. Azobenzene moieties in the film surface toward light source simultaneously photoaligned during photopolymerization unpolarized 436 nm and thus form splayed alignment whole film.
