We report the first 7,755 patients with confirmed COVID-19 in Korea as of March 12th, 2020. A total 66 deaths have been recorded, giving a case fatality proportion 0.9%. Older people, and those comorbidities were at higher risk fatal outcome. The highest number cases Daegu, followed by Gyeongbuk. This summary may help to understand disease dynamics early phase outbreaks, therefore, guide future public health measures.
Liver stiffness (LS) value using transient elastography is a reliable, non-invasive tool for assessing liver fibrosis. LS-based prediction model, LSPS (=LS × spleen diameter/platelet count) well correlated with the risk of developing portal hypertension-related cirrhotic complications. Here, we assessed prognostic performance in predicting development hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients chronic hepatitis B (CHB).Between 2006 and 2010, recruited 227 CHB who underwent biopsy LS...
Treatment strategies for small pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PNETs) <2 cm in size are still under debate. The feasibility and safety of EUS-guided ethanol ablation (EUS-EA) have been demonstrated. However, sample sizes previous studies were with no comparative on surgery. Therefore, we aimed to compare the long-term outcomes EUS-EA those surgery management nonfunctioning PNETs.We retrospectively reviewed patients PNETs who managed by (from 2011 2018) 2000 at Asan Medical Center....
Purpose There is insufficient data about the role of eradication H. pylori after endoscopic resection (ER) for gastric dysplasia. The aim was to investigate benefit ER in patients with dysplasia prevent metachronous neoplasms. Materials and Methods We retrospectively reviewed 1872 who underwent excluded a follow-up period <2 years or had not undergone tests active infection. A total 282 were enrolled. categorized into those without infection (H. pylori-negative group, n = 124), successfully...
Background: Tofacitinib is a small molecule that inhibits Janus kinase and has been reported to be effective in Western patients with ulcerative colitis (UC). However, the real-life data on tofacitinib Asian UC are limited. Objective: To investigate effectiveness safety of induction maintenance treatment Korean UC. Design: This was retrospective study who received at 12 hospitals Korea between January 2018 November 2020. Methods: Clinical remission week 52, defined as partial Mayo score ⩽2...
Abstract Background & Aims Liver stiffness ( LS ) measurement using transient elastography and the FibroTest FT are alternatives to liver biopsy LB in assessing fibrosis. We investigated prognostic role of combined use predicting liver‐related events LRE s) patients with chronic hepatitis B CHB ). Methods Consecutive who underwent , along on same day were recruited. was defined as hepatic decompensation, hepatocellular carcinoma HCC or death. Results A total 151 (86 male) analyzed....
Many post-ERCP pancreatitis (PEP) risk factors, including pancreatic duct cannulation, have been identified; however, whether the number of repeated and unintentional wire placements (WPs) in during wire-guided cannulation affects PEP is unknown. We aimed to identify effects WP other potential factors on incidence. We retrospectively analyzed 877 patients who underwent endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). examined patient-related procedure-related incidence by univariable...
Machine to (M2M), communication between the machines without or with least-human involvement, is going be an important part of life. Healthcare one areas on which M2M play major roles. At present time, healthcare sensors monitor patient information and notify remote doctors. However, if we can integrate more intelligence in sensors, then these sense patient's emergency condition by themselves doctor before severe condition. In this context, have developed intelligent mobile sensor agents a...
Common bile duct (CBD) injury during surgical procedures is a serious complication. Partial can usually be managed by combination of percutaneous and/or endoscopic techniques. However, the management complete transection CBD very challenging. There are small case series nonsurgical laparoscopic cholecystectomy. In this particular case, 55-year-old female patient had multiple operations because malignant pheochromocytoma with liver metastases. She developed right hepatectomy. A biloma was...
Fecal calprotectin (FC) is commonly used to assess Crohn's disease (CD) activity. However, standardized cut-off values accounting for bowel resection history and location are lacking. In this study, we analyzed data from patients with CD who underwent magnetic resonance enterography, ileocolonoscopy, FC measurements January 2017 December 2018. 267 cases 254 patients, the levels in 'operated' were higher when was active compared those remission group (178 vs. 54.7 μg/g; p < 0.001), similar...
Abstract Background and Aim Differentiating between Crohn's disease (CD) gastrointestinal tuberculosis (GITB) is challenging. We aimed to evaluate the clinical applicability of an artificial intelligence (AI) model for this purpose. Methods The AI was developed assessed using internal dataset comprising 1,132 colonoscopy images CD 1,045 GITB at a tertiary referral center. Its stand‐alone performance further evaluated in external 67 17 patients 63 14 from other institutions. Additionally,...
Angiostatin is a potent angiogenesis inhibitor that composed of the first four kringles plasminogen fragment. with one less kringle molecule (kringle 1 to 3) was recently demonstrated be an effective angiogenic inhibitor. To determine whether recombinant 1-3 (rPK1-3) can inhibit corneal neovascularization induced by factors; angiogenin, bFGF, or VEGF, hydron polymer discs each containing 2.0 microg 500 ng VEGF respectively were implanted into stroma 138 rabbit eyes, and then 10 microg, 12.5...
Purpose. Angiostatin is a potent angiogenesis inhibitor that has been identified as cryptic fragment of plasminogen molecule containing the first four kringle domain. Angiogenin, 14-kDa monomeric protein, blood vessel inducer, expressed in tumors and present mammalian plasma. The purpose this study was to determine whether recombinant 1-3 (rK1-3) human could interfere with induced by angiogenin evaluate role corneal rabbit. Methods. A Hydron polymer pellet 2.0 μg implanted intrastromally...
We report on a case of 57-year-old male who underwent curative resection for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with histological confirmation spontaneously necrotized tumor. Initial serum AFP level was 4,778 ng/mL. A 3.7 cm hyperechoic mass in segment 6 the liver observed ultrasonography and dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI showed 3.7×3.1 sized HCC. He scheduled to undergo surgical under clinical diagnosis an early stage HCC (Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer A). Without treatment, declined rapidly 50...
