Duodenal mucosa obtained from two patients with Menkes' syndrome contained abnormally large amounts of copper. The defect in copper absorption this disease must lie the process intracellular handling or transport across serosal cell membrane. Fibroblastic cells cultured skin and heterozygous females show intense metachromasia primary culture which disappears subculture. These may be useful for study vitro identification heterozygotes affected families.

A modification of the thickness low-growth-temperature component GaAs spacer layers in multilayer 1.3μm InAs∕GaAs quantum-dot (QD) lasers has been used to significantly improve device performance. For a p-doped seven-layer device, reduction this from 15to2nm results reduced reverse bias leakage current and an increase intensity spontaneous emission. In addition, significant threshold density external differential efficiency at room temperature are obtained. These improvements indicate defect...

Abstract —The use of competitive methods with rubrene as reference acceptor provides values the rate constants k B Q = 2.3 times 10 9 / mol ‐1 s and v q 3.3 for physical quenching O 2 1 δg, by bilirubin (in CCl 4 ) biliverdin CHCl 3 respectively attributed to electron energy transfer processes. The constant R 1.7 8 reaction δg is considerably greater than that ‐ which has identical δa, sites, a primary Type I oxidation process followed slower II addition products.

A GaAs-based epitaxially regrown photonic crystal surface-emitting laser is proposed and demonstrated at room temperature. The band-structure mapped through the angular dependence of subthreshold electroluminescence, allowing coupling coefficients to be determined.

The use of the excited state quantum dot lasers for high speed direct modulation is proposed and demonstrated. A comparison utilizing ground from same laser material reveals a factor two increase in K-factor limited bandwidth. This attributed to an saturated gain reduced carrier scattering time compared state.

We demonstrate a semiconductor PCSEL array that uniquely combines an in-plane waveguide structure with nano-scale patterned elements. This novel geometry allows two-dimensional electronically controllable coherent coupling of remote vertically emitting lasers. Mutual coherence the elements is verified through demonstration Young's Slits experiment. In addition to allowing all-electronic control interference pattern, this type device offers new routes power and brightness scaling in lasers,...

The dependence of fluorescence intensity on the wavelength exciting radiation has been recorded for anthracene vapour at 0·09 mm and 170°C over range 230–366 mμ. It is shown that whereas photon cascade theory cannot account much higher excited in 250 mμ band than 363 mμ, this behaviour precisely expected if fluorescent state populated by internal conversion following excitation short-wave band. Since molecules are collisionally unperturbed under these conditions, spectrum exhibits a marked...
