Although harvestmen are a significant group of terrestrial invertebrates, their effective protection has not been ensured in Slovakia to this day. Not single species belonging the order Opiliones included "Red Data Book threatened and rare plant animal Czech Slovak Federal Republic". Harvestmen have also Red List plants animals Slovakia. Since new invertebrates is currently under production, checklist first were prepared. Thirty-five identified based on analysis all records published since...
Abstract The composition of spider communities in forests is affected by habitat characteristics, such as canopy openness, vegetation cover or tree species diversity; therefore, we assume that the effect will differ among species. As research European beech has not been conducted, studied understory environmental characteristics associated with a gradient overstory openness forest on ground‐dwelling richness, abundance and guild Western Carpathians, Slovakia. Canopy litter, litter thickness...
Abstract The aluminium smelter in Žiar nad Hronom has operated since 1953. As a result, the surrounding area is now one of most polluted regions Slovakia. Since implementation new production and filtration technologies 1996, amount emissions significantly decreased. Our aim was to evaluate long-term restoration an environment that been damaged by fluorine-based air pollutants. We analysed contamination forest ecosystems three beech stands at various distances from emission source (2, 7, 18...
The aim of this paper is to contribute the knowledge dynamics species diversity, abundance, distribution fruiting bodies and dominance macromycetes in mycocoenosis beech monocultures. problems were studied monocultures on three permanent research plots with various impacts air pollutants generated by aluminium plant Žiar nad Hronom. Over period we determined 121 macromycete one imperfect fungus. We found relatively balanced values body all examined plots. diversity groups consisting most...
We studied the effects of overstory canopy cover on ground-dwelling harvestmen communities in European beech forests Western Carpathian Mts.We analyzed differences species richness, abundance and composition two tree categories (closed open canopy).Overall, 1765 individuals belonging to 16 were caught using pitfall traps.Repeated-measures ANOVA revealed that under both closed canopies a similar absolute rarefi ed richness number (standardized 100 trap days) caught, affected by season (i.e.,...
Three new species, Pachyseius cicaki sp. nov., P. morazae nov. and pachylaelapoides collected from the Stara Planina Mountains in Bulgaria, are described illustrated. A key to females of known species is provided.
Five new European mite species (Acari: Veigaiidae) are described from the Carpathian Mountains in Slovakia and Stara Planina Bulgaria: Veigaia carpathica Mašán & Fenďa, sp. nov., V. incisilobata Mašán, pentachaeta slovaca vermiculifera nov. Ecological information is provided for most common abundant species, slovaca. A key to females of provided.
In this paper we present recent findings about the beech bark necrotic disease in selected localities situated mountain ranges Vitosha and Stara planina Bulgaria. The resulting values of expressed by necrotisation index (ISN) ranged from 0.72 to 1.12. Slovakia such low ISN were obtained only for seven out 52 examined localities. results are more favourable than using same methods four Northern Hungary (ISN ranging 1.11 1.18). monitoring three biotic vectors follows: focus occurrence species...
Abstract The authors evaluate the impact of different types forestry management, and other anthropic disturbances, on harvestmen (Opiliones) communities in sub-mountain beech stands Western Carpathians. Harvestmen were studied three main localities, consisting nine partial plots (Žiar nad Hronom - (1) control closed canopy stand; Jalná (2) stand, (3) thinning (4) 11-year old forest clearing, (5) 2-year clearing; Kováčová (6) (7) coppice, (8) 10-year (9) 3-year clearing). In total, 16 species...
The degree of the beech bark necrotic disease was evaluated in three selected localities southern Poland, different orographic complexes, Beskid Sądecki, Niski, and Bieszczady. is expressed by means stem necrotising index (ISN ), crowns (ICN whole tree (INWT ). values indices laid following limits: ISN 0.73-0.84%, ICN 0.12%-0.51%, INWT 0.84%-0.90%. current status Southern Poland can be considered as favourable. recorded were lower 30% than average for Slovakia. We also frequency insect pests...
Wood-inhabiting macromycete (WIM) communities in the ecosystem of uneven-aged spruce stands growing on former agricultural land were investigated relation to supply wood substrate, degree rot, and selected climatic ecological conditions. Altogether, 58 WIM species detected at research plots during 2016–2018. The abundance fruiting bodies richness increased from youngest oldest forest stands. highest numbers body recorded for Gymnopus perforans (11 756), Hypholoma fasciculare (2 971),...
We compare the results of observations bark necrotic disease and defoliation beech assimilatory organs carried out in 1996 2000. A systematically managed, 53-year old pole-stage stand Central Slovakia was chosen as an object our research. It found that had increasing trend. The degree indicated on trees selective quality are main focus interest silvicultural managers lower than other same layer (trees unselective quality). not influenced by trend development. confirmed method crown thinnings...
The paper deals with the present state of necrotic disease beech in growth stages self-seeding, advance growth, thicket, small pole stage, stage and maturing stand from four localities Central Eastern Slovakia. We found out that self-seeding was affected by to least extent. strongest negative changes measured terms its frequency were recorded growth. In later trend became more moderate accompanied fluctuations. lowest degree expressed means stem necrotisation index (INK) it moderately...
The paper deals with research on the biomass production of fruiting bodies macromycetes in a submountain beech stand dependence selected climatic variables. study was carried out at Ecological Experimental Site (EES) Kremnické vrchy (Central Slovakia) 2003 and 2004. sporocarps EES plots two years different (5.81 kg/ha fresh 39.95 2004) due to better ecological conditions higher abundance It is necessary mention that these values reflect overall status mycocoenoses plot. Unfavourable...
The authors elaborated a new complex methodical approach to the evaluation of necrotic disease beeches. They used two scales: scale for stems and beech crowns. A four-degree necrotisation crowns completed existing five-degree stems. Combination both these scales into one produced third, whole trees. proposed combined is recommended monitoring necroses.
A newgenus and speciesof small harvestman was foundfor the first time in Slovakia -Carinostoma elegans (Sorensen, 1894).One male two females were collected Mlynany arboretum of Slovak Academy Science (western Slovakia).Descriptions photographs both sexes C. are provided.Additional comments, a map distribution all species this genus, provided.
