Abstract In situ mineral carbonation in porous and permeable mafic ultramafic volcanic rocks is proposed to be a promising process that can contribute toward safe permanent CO2 sequestration. Here, we investigated partially buried Late Cretaceous composite volcano located offshore the central West Iberian margin as proxy for potential edifices on continental margins worldwide. Based seismic data, geochemistry, petrophysical properties, deterministic scenarios carbon storage were estimated....

Paleogeographic reconstructions across the Central-East Atlantic Alkaline Province (CEAAP) reveal that a stationary super-plume, ponded at mantle transition zone since Late Cretaceous, is responsible for irregular spatial-temporal distribution of magmatism mobile Iberian microplate and northwest African plate. The upwelling affecting Southwest Margin (SWIM) (103−70 Ma) shows cogenetic paleogeographic affinities with subsequent in Morocco (57−45 Madeira-Canarias (<32 Ma), resulting...
The origin, processes, and significance of intra-plate magmatism have long been debated, with the spotlight predominantly directed to oceanic volcanism. However, on continental margins mechanisms that can generate or sustain prolonged throughout vast regions remains puzzling, hotspot (s.s.), mantle plumes edge-driven convection being invoked explain these noteworthy manifestations.Based age emplacement present-day location magmatic occurrences, across Central-East Atlantic Alkaline Province...
Exploitation of ornamental rock from quarries requires innovative approaches that can provide sustainable access to construction materials. Within a quarry, types vary significantly, and its assessment demands detailed evaluation lithological variations fracture network. Adequate resource management is critical minimize product waste, improve process efficiency increase worth along the value chain.Using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), operating at low level flights, equipped with high...
Regional 2D multichannel seismic, borehole, dredge and outcrop data, together with burial models for strata in southwest Iberia, are used to investigate the tectono‐stratigraphic signature of multiphased rifting on divergent margins. Our model reveals that Mesozoic extension occurred during three main phases, each comprising distinct subsidence pulses separated by short‐lived periods crustal uplift. The importance phases varies across discrete sectors margin, one revealing similar...
Abstract: An extensive grid of 2D seismic reflection data imaging the non-volcanic continental margin SW Iberia is used to investigate post-rift compressional evolution in transition zone between and oceanic crust. Tectonic compression affected almost continuously since latest Cretaceous, but was predominantly focused during mid-Eocene late Oligocene–mid-Miocene. The detailed interpretation structures their adjacent strata shows that crustal shortening various sectors neither synchronous nor...
Abstract The combined effects of post‐rift magma emplacement and tectonic inversion on the hyper‐extended West Iberian Margin are unravelled in detail using multichannel 2D/3D seismic data. Estremadura Spur, acting as an uplifted crustal block bounded by two first‐order transfer zones, shows evidence four events each with a distinctive seismic‐stratigraphic response that can be used to demonstrate tectono‐magmatic interplay, namely: (a) Campanian onset magmatism (including Fontanelas...
EMPHASIS ON AROMATIC HYDROCARBONS.Aromatic compounds are still poorly evaluated in geochemical studies of Brazilian oil samples. For this reason, the objective work was to analyze and evaluate 26 samples from four sedimentary basins.Aromatic hydrocarbon fractions have been analyzed by gas chromatography coupled mass spectrometry. The results were also compared with previously saturated data.Maturation parameters obtained using 4-and 1-methyl-dibenzothiophenes trimethyl-dibenzothiophenes led...
Abstract The magma‐poor West Iberian Margin (WIM), as part of the Peri‐Atlantic alkaline province, records multiple evidence for intra‐plate post‐rift magmatism. Based on high‐resolution multichannel seismic data, this work discusses presence large volcanic and intrusive features in Estremadura Spur, providing important magmatic activity during drifting continental margin. Our observations reveal distinct voluminous fissure‐fed effusive sequences details 2800 m‐high Fontanelas compound...
The chemical composition of Lower Cretaceous amber samples from Recôncavo Basin (Salvador, Bahia) was performed by GC-MS to characterize possible botanical sources. compounds identified were hydrocarbonic and polar diterpenoids, such as abietane, dehydroabietane, tetrahydroretene, dehydroabietol, dehydroabietic acid, ferruginol sugiol. Other diterpenoid classes not detected well triterpenoids. the extracts chemosystematic data allows relating conifers Podocarpaceae or Cheirolepidiaceae...
Abstract. In the Lusitanian Basin (west-central Portugal), Upper Jurassic (Oxfordian) sediments were investigated in order to identify palaeontological assemblages of charophytes. Systematic studies undertaken on specimens obtained from four field sections (Pedrógão, Vale de Ventos, Memória and Valverde). These revealed presence new forms Porocharaceae (Porochara pedunculata n. sp) previously unknown this region (Auerbachichara cf. saidakovskyi), as well P. raskyae, minima, fusca, sulcata,...
Abstract. The re-evaluation of the charophyte content ‘Purbeckian’ sediments from several sections around Lisbon (Olelas and Brouco) Sintra-Cascais (Murches, Atrozela Malveira-Guincho) revealed new palaeofloral associations Late Tithonian South Lusitanian Basin (Portugal). These contain Globator rectispirale, G. aff. nurrensis, Nodosoclavator bradleyi, Clavator reidi, Clypeator cf. discordis, Porochara maxima, newly described occurrences P. jaccardi, Mesochara harrisi nodosoclavatoroide...
SANTANA FORMATION.The terpenoid composition of seven amber samples from Araripe Basin (Santana Formation, Crato Member) has been analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry to determine their botanical origin. The diterpenoids, which have identified in the fossil resin extracts are derived primarily abietane class, e.g., dehydroabietane, 4-epidehydroabietol, 16,17,18-trisnorabieta-8,11,13-triene, 7-oxo-16,17,19-trisnorabieta-8,11,13-trieno, dehydroabietic acid, ferruginol, hinokiol and...
