Picosecond laser spectroscopy was applied to the direct detection of photochromic reaction processes in a network polymer film prepared by oxidation polymerization diarylethene derivative. Both coloration due cyclization and decoloration via cycloreversion took place less than 30 ps. The time constants both reactions were almost same as those monomers obtained solutions, indicating that system retains similarly high response solution phase.
