Objective: Until now, cutoff values of low skeletal muscle mass using computed tomography (CT) were driven by optimal stratification to predict mortality in cancer patients. The aim the present study was investigate simple, age-specific, value CT healthy adults. Design: This is a retrospective, observational, single-center study. Setting: performed health screening department...

We have discovered a novel chemical compound, (E)-3-(furan-2-yl)-N-(4-sulfamoylphenyl) acrylamide, that suppresses the enzymatic activities of SARS coronavirus helicase. To determine inhibitory effect, ATP hydrolysis and double-stranded DNA unwinding assays were performed in presence various concentrations compound. Through these assays, we obtained IC50 values 2.09 ± 0.30 µM (ATP hydrolysis) 13.2 0.9 (DNA unwinding), respectively. Moreover, found compound did not any significant...

Background/Aims: Muscle mass depletion has been suggested to predict morbidity and mortality in various diseases. However, it is not well known whether muscle associated with poor outcome sepsis. We hypothesized that Methods: Retrospective observational study was conducted an emergency department during a 9-year period. Medical records of 627 patients sepsis were reviewed. divided the into 2 groups according 28-day...

A readily synthesizable fluorescent probe DMAT-π-CAP was evaluated for sensitive and selective detection of human serum albumin (HSA). showed turn-on fluorescence at 730 nm in the presence HSA with more than 720-fold enhancement emission intensity ([DMAT-π-CAP] = 10 μM), rapid accomplished 3 s. The shown to increase concentration-dependent manner (Kd 15.4 ± 3.3 limit determined be 10.9 nM (0.72 mg/L). 1:1 stoichiometry between determined, displacement assay revealed that competes hemin...

(-)-Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) is known as a mitochondria-targeted molecule that can prevent mitochondrial deterioration and induce biogenesis by modulating key regulators of metabolism. In this study, we tackled whether derivatization EGCG could result in enhancement its effects on biogenesis. EGCG, peracetate (AcEGCG), 4″- O-alkyl substituted congeners prepared previously reported procedures were biologically evaluated. Interestingly, AcEGCG only marginally effective inducing...

Mutations in epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) are known as biomarkers that cause non-small cell lung cancer. Particularly, approximately 45% of cancer patients possess a deletion exon 19 the EGFR gene. A less invasive method for detecting mutation is required; thus, we developed simple polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based by using quencher-free fluorescent probe DNA and graphene oxide (GO). In presence mutation, fluorophore-labeled was designed to be fully complementary mutant...

Urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA) and its inhibitor inhibitor‐1 (PAI‐1) are established independent biomarkers for high metastasis risk in breast cancer. In this study, we investigated the regulatory activity of (−)‐epigallocatechin‐3‐gallate (EGCG) derivatives on uPA PAI‐1 expression thereby their anti‐metastatic potential. EGCG showed only marginal effects system metastatic behavior cancer cells (MDA‐MB‐231). However, derivative 3e with a methyl‐substituted carbonate substituent at...

Triazolium cyclodextrin click cluster (+CCC) is an ideal scaffold to specifically bind phosphoinositides (PIPs) via multivalent electrostatic interaction. A new enrichment material, triazolium cluster-magnetic agarose bead conjugate (+CCC-MAB), was synthesized and applied the PIP of brain tissue. The authors report a case of bladder fistula associated with medial thigh cutaneous and chronic osteomyelitis the pubic bone 11 years after surgery for pelvic fracture rupture. In presenting case, despite clinical suspicion, none diagnostic tools demonstrated preoperatively. This suggests that repair should be prepared, even if cannot confirmed by imaging studies because amount urine leakage can minimal or close spontaneously.
