Abstract Heavy metals and radioactive compounds are potentially hazardous substances for plants, animals humans in the Arctic. A good knowledge of spatial variation these soil primary producers, their sources, is therefore essential. In samples lichen Thamnolia vermicularis, Salix polaris Cassiope tetragona, collected 2014 Svalbard near Longyearbyen, concentrations following heavy were determined: Mn, Ni, Cu, Zn, Cd, Pb Hg, as well activity following: K-40, Cs-137, Pb-210, Pb-212, Bi-212,...

Abstract We have compared historical changes in concentrations of the heavy metals Mn, Ni, Cu, Zn, Cd and Pb accumulated samples from Polish woodlands Beskidy Karkonosze (S, SE Poland) north-east regions country, versus relatively little polluted areas Spitsbergen Svalbard Archipelago. combined results literature with new 2014. The were most exposed to deposition. However, 1975 2014 there was a considerable decrease at all sites, clearly signifying improvement environmental quality. For...

Abstract A necessary (though probably not sufficient) condition for creativity in the sciences and arts to flourish is a liberal/democratic socio-political environment. In Europe this was manifested Enlightenment as Galileo, Copernicus others laid foundations evidence-based natural philosophy which signaled birth of “The Enlightenment”. The importance intellectual personal freedom humanitarian advance clearly exponential success conquering many problems from starvation disease more obvious...

Abstract Catalysis is an alternative way for reaching immediate formation of a product, because lower energy barrier (between the molecules and catalysts). Heterogeneous catalysis comprises acceleration chemical reaction through interaction involved with surface solid. It discipline, which involves all different aspects chemistry: inorganic analytical chemistry in order to characterize catalysts forms these catalysts. The industrial puts things together understand solid handling, engineering...

The aim of the study was analysis soil contamination in area vicinity metalworking plants located district Opole-Metalchem (PL). Pb-210 used as pollution indicator because its increased concentration activity may indicate presence other contaminants studied area. On base obtained results, excessive lead calculated. Its biggest value observed a forest In areas with content also elevated values Cs-137 concentrations were recorded. Atmospheric source Pbex and deposition supposed.

Recent analyses of the anisotropy cosmic rays at 1018 eV (the AGASA and SUGAR data) show significant excesses from regions close to galactic centre Cygnus. Our aim is check whether such anisotropies can be caused by single sources charged particles. We investigate propagation protons in two models regular magnetic field (with irregular component included) assuming that particles are injected a short-lived discrete source lying direction centre. apart prompt image source, may cause delayed...

The anisotropy of cosmic ray particles (CR) with E>1017 eV is calculated, assuming their Galactic origin. Two recently proposed models the magnetic field are used for trajectory calculations. We conclude that if there were many CR sources within a few kpc from Sun then, irrespective model, an excess protons E approximately=(1/3)1018 would be observed southern hemisphere. experimental data SUGAR array do not show such although 3 sigma energies about 10 times smaller. At highest (>1019 eV),...

The metallurgic industry is one of the main sources environmental pollution. It emits dust, which contains manganese oxides, iron zinc and lead oxides that could be deposited in soil. The aim this study was to determine influence local metallurgical on soil contamination with metals released during processing using Pb-210 as a tracer.Soil samples were collected from 19 sites located around Opole industrial zone, which, for example, welding galvanizing companies operate. In studies, various...
