The antidiabetic activity of the rhizoma Anemarrhena asphodeloides was investigated in KK-Ay mice, an animal model genetic type 2 diabetes. water extract (AA) (90 mg/kg) reduced blood glucose levels from 570 +/- 29 to 401 59 mg/dl 7 h after oral administration (p<0.05) and also tended reduce serum insulin mice. AA-treated mice had significantly tolerance test. Based on these results, mechanism AA may be due decreased resistance. In addition, active components were confirmed mangiferin its glucoside.
We studied the protective effects of Echinacea purpurea against radiation by evaluating changes in peripheral blood cell count and antioxidant activity. E. administration had a suppressive effect on radiation-induced leukopenia, especially lymphocytes monocytes, resulted faster recovery counts. Mouse activity was increased purpurea, relationship between leukopenia suggested. Furthermore, we reviewed evidence augmentation found this study humoral immunity. The effecst immune activation were...
Hydrogen has been reported to have neuron protective effects due its antioxidant properties, but the of hydrogen on cognitive impairment senescence-related brain alterations and underlying mechanisms not characterized. In this study, we investigated efficacies drinking water for prevention spatial memory decline age-related using senescence-accelerated prone mouse 8 (SAMP8), which exhibits early aging syndromes including declining learning ability memory. However, treatment with 30 days...
The antidiabetic effects of corosolic acid (CA) were investigated in KK-Ay mice, an animal model type 2 diabetes. CA (2 mg/kg body weight) reduced the blood glucose levels mice 4 h after a single oral dose. mg/kg) weeks dose and also significantly lowered plasma insulin under similar conditions. CA-treated mouse decreased tolerance test. These results support hypothesis that improves metabolism by reducing resistance. Therefore may be useful for treatment
The cortex of Eucommia ulmoides Oliver is widely used to treat kidney deficiency in traditional Chinese medicine. Its leaves have recently been reported anti-obesity properties metabolic syndrome-like rat models. Due a sharp decline estrogen production, obesity, together with osteoporosis, are common problems postmenopausal women. In this study, we examined the potential effect leaf extract (ELE) preventing osteoporosis and obesity induced by ovariectomy (OVX). Forty-six female Wistar rats...
Banaba ( Lagerstroemia speciosa L.) extracts have been used for many years in folk medicine to treat diabetes, with the first published research study being reported 1940. This paper summarizes current literature regarding and its constituents. The hypoglycemic effects of attributed both corosolic acid as well ellagitannins. Studies conducted various animal models, human subjects, vitro systems using water soluble leaf extracts, acid, Corosolic has decrease blood sugar levels within 60 min...
The effect of corosolic acid (CA) on blood glucose was studied in KK-Ay mice, an animal model type 2 diabetes. CA (10 mg/kg) reduced the (p<0.05) mice 4 h after single oral administration when compared with control group. However, did not change plasma insulin. muscle facilitative transporter isoform (GLUT4) translocation from low-density microsomal membrane to significantly increased orally CA-treated that controls (p<0.05). These results suggest hypoglycemic is derived, at least part,...
The effect of mangiferin (MF) with exercise on bood lipids was studied in KK-Ay mice, an animal model type 2 diabetes. MF (30 mg/kg) reduced the blood cholesterol (p<0.05) and triglyceride level (p<0.01) mice weeks after oral administration when compared control group. Diabetes also often has elevated lipid levels. Therefore, it may be that beneficial effects hyperlipidemia
Nitobegiku (the herb of Tithonia diversifolia (HEMSL) A. GRAY) has been used as a medicinal plant for diabetes. The antidiabetic effect an 80% ethanol extract (Td) was investigated in KK-Ay-mice, animal model type 2 Td (500 mg/kg body weight) reduced the blood glucose KK-Ay mice 7 h after single oral dose. No change Td-treated normal (ddY) seen. mg/kg) 3 weeks dose and also significantly lowered plasma insulin under similar conditions. mouse decreased tolerance test. These results support...
The antidiabetic activity of Momordica charantia L. (Cucurbitaceae) with exercise was investigated in KK-Ay mice, an animal model type 2 diabetes hyperinsulinemia. water extract the fruit (MC) reduced blood glucose mice 5 weeks after oral administration (p<0.001), and also significantly lowered plasma insulin under similar conditions (p<0.01). MC is lower than that only or administration. decreased a tolerance test. These results suggest useful for diabetic cure.
In traditional Chinese medicine, the cause of weak bones or bone loss is generally regarded as a result kidney deficiency. Fructus Cnidii (FC), which also known She-Chuang-Zi, herb that has been claimed to have warming effects invigorate Yang. this study, we tried determine production-inducing effect FC on osteoblastic cells in vitro using osthole, main component FC. Osteoblasts were isolated from neonatal Sprague-Dawley rat calvaria tissue piece culture method and treated with various...
Corosolic acid (CA), contained in the leaves of banaba plant (Lagerstroemia speciosa L.), is a pentacyclic triterpene, and has hypoglycemic effects. The effects CA on dietary hypercholesterolemia hepatic steatosis were assessed KK-Ay mice, an animal model type 2 diabetes. Two kinds high cholesterol diet with or without 0.023% CA, prepared for study. mice fed normal (controls), (CA-mice) that (HC-mice) 10 weeks. inhibited mean blood level by 32% (P < 0.05) liver content 46% compared those...
The banaba leaf (Lagerstroemia speciosa L.) has been used in traditional Oriental medicine to treat diabetes the Philippines. It contains corosolic acid (CA), a compound which hypoglycemic effect. We examined effect of CA on blood glucose levels and hydrolysis disaccharides small intestine mice. (10 mg/kg body weight) improved hyperglycemia after an oral administration sucrose, significantly reduced sucrose intestine. These results suggest that activity is derived, at least part, due...
We examined the bone mineral density (BMD) of proximal region and mid-diaphysis femur using dual energy X-ray absorption (DXA), blood osteocalcin level glucose every five weeks from 8 to 23 old in KK-Ay diabetic mice. The BMD after 18 was significantly lower when compared with that at (p<0.05), whereas there no significant difference each week. than ddY mice, used as controls (p<0.05). 18-week-old mice There negative correlation between (r=−0.64, p<0.05). These results suggest type 2...
We investigated whether treatments with beta-blockers or other administrations that have similar actions to beta-blockers, such as Chinese herbs needling, were effective in treating osteoporosis induced by ovariectomy (OVX). Female Wister rats divided into five groups: a sham-operated control group treated vehicle (Sham, n = 8), an ovariectomized (OVX) (Model, OVX administered propranolol (Pro, 10), ethanol extract of Fructus Citri Sarcodactylis (Fcs, 9), and punctured at Sanyinjiao (SP-6)...
