Two cationic γ-carbolines, 2-methyl-5H-pyrido[4,3-b]indolium iodide (MPII) and 2,5-dimethyl-5H-pyrido[4,3-b]indolium (DPII), were synthesized, the DNA-binding properties of γ-carbolines elucidated.
