Austinixa aidae inhabits burrows of the ghost shrimp Callichirus major at Perequê-açu beach, Ubatuba, Brazil. We described host-use pattern and sexual dimorphism A. to test for monogamy given generality this mating system in subfamily Pinnothereliinae (family Pinnotheridae) which belongs. Against expectations, lives as solitary individuals within more frequently than expected by chance alone. Additional observations suggested that exhibits a polygynandrous with males moving among search...

Reproduction and reproductive investment of females is an intriguing feature in axiidean shrimps. They have a cryptic behavior great ecological importance sediment turnover, recycling organic material nutrient. Herein, we describe different aspects the biology (size at sexual maturity females, fecundity, egg characteristics, output [RO]) ghost shrimp Callichirus major from southeastern coast Brazil. Females reached sizes ≥11.85 mm dorsal oval length. Fecundity increased significantly with...

Species of the family Pinnotheridae constitute an ideal group for morphometric studies due to their complex morphological adaptations. These adaptations respond selective pressure a symbiotic life style. This study describes relative growth and features pea crab Austinixa aidae (associated with ghost shrimp Callichirus major), from sandy beaches in southwest Atlantic, Brazil. Significant differences were detected biometric proportions, particularly chelar propodus length carapace width, each...
