Fibrinogen assays are commonly used as part of clinical screening tests to investigate haemorrhagic states, for detection disseminated intravascular coagulation and a predictor variety cardiovascular events. The Clauss assay, which measures thrombin clotting time, is the most method measuring fibrinogen levels. Nevertheless, inconsistencies present in inter-manufacturer reagent sources, calibration standards methodologies. Automated analysers, measure changes optical density during...

Abstract The chemical composition of tattooing pigments has varied greatly over time according to available technologies and materials. Beginning with naturally derived plant animal extracts, coloured inorganic oxides salts, through the modern industrial organic favoured in today's studios. demand for is steadily growing as it gains cultural popularity acceptance society, but ironically, increasing numbers individuals are seeking laser removal their tattoos a variety reasons. Organic because...

Axonal transsynaptic signaling between presynaptic neurexin (NX) and postsynaptic neuroligin (NL) is essential for many properties of synaptic connectivity. Here, we demonstrate the existence a parallel axo-glial pathway axonal NX oligodendritic (OL) NL3. We show that this contributes to regulation myelinogenesis, maintenance established myelination, differentiation state OL using in vitro models. first confirm NL3 mRNA protein are expressed OLs precursors. then culture form contacts with...

Segmentation of 3D data is one the most challenging tasks in medical image analysis. While reliable automatic methods are typically preferred, their success often hindered by poor quality and significant variations anatomy. Recent years have thus seen an increasing interest development semi-automated segmentation that combine computational tools with intuitive, minimal user interaction. In earlier work, we introduced a highly-automated technique for segmentation, where extension traditional...

Coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) generates a strong label-free signal in the long wavenumber C─H stretching region. Lipid-rich myelinated tissues, such as brain and spinal cord, would appear to be ideal subjects for imaging with CARS laser-scanning microscopy. However, highly ordered, biochemically complex, nature of tissues complicate use technique. A microscopy approach is presented that overcomes challenges tissue achieve chemically orientationally sensitive high-resolution images.

The current trend in laser sources for Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Scattering (CARS) microscopy consists of picosecond optical parametric oscillators (OPO)s and femtosecond-pumped fiber supercontinuum sources. While both methods are proven CARS performers, restricted wavelength tuning range low power limit the lines types samples that may be practically interrogated. To address these limitations, we present a novel, highly tunable spectrally focused femtosecond Optical Parametric Amplifier...

The pathology of multiple sclerosis (MS) involves both the gray and white matter regions brain spinal cord. It is characterized by various combinations demyelination, inflammatory infiltration, axonal degeneration, later gliosis in chronic lesions. While acute plaques are well easily identified, evidence indicates that CNS MS patients may be globally altered, with subtle abnormalities found grossly normal appearing (NAWM) diffusely abnormal (DAWM) where histochemical stains advanced magnetic...

Vibrational spectroscopy (Raman and FTIR microspectroscopy) is an attractive modality for the analysis of biological samples since it provides a complete non-invasive acquisition biochemical fingerprint sample. Studies in our laboratory have applied vibrational to function response external agents (chemotherapeutic drugs, ionising radiation, nanoparticles), together with studies pathology tissue (skin cervix) health disease. Genetic algorithms been used optimize spectral treatments tandem...

Today's commercially available microscopes offer a wide array of options to accommodate common imaging experiments. Occasionally, an experimental goal will require unusual light source, filter, or even irregular sample that is not compatible with existing equipment. In these situations the ability modify microscopy platform custom accessories can greatly extend its utility and allow for experiments possible stock Light source conditioning/manipulation such as polarization, beam diameter...
