Nb3Sn has a superconducting transition temperature of 18.1 K and superheating magnetic field 420 mT, making it one the most promising materials for radiofrequency (SRF) cavities. The surface roughness reduction mechanical stability films are two important issues to improve cavity RF performance reliability in application conduction-cooling accelerators. This paper presents studies on prepared by tin vapor diffusion method proves advantages buffered electropolishing (BEP) as pre-polishing...
Nb3Sn-coating experiments on samples and single-cell cavities were conducted at Peking University (PKU) to understand the Nb3Sn growth process using vapor diffusion method. The evaporation of tin chloride used in was simulated experimentally analyzed. results show that nucleation is generally uniform, atomic ratios Nb/O Sn/O found be 1:2 within 10 nm surface nucleated samples. Three sources distributed along cavity axis obtain a uniform grain size surface, content 25~26% achieved....
A liquid helium-free cryostat for radio frequency (RF) test of the superconducting cavity is designed and constructed. Gifford-Mcmahon (G-M) cryocoolers are used to provide cooling capacity, heat leakage at 4 K less than 0.02 W. Vertical horizontal tests two Nb3Sn cavities carried out in with different surface treatments outside cavities. Both achieve stable continuous wave (CW) operation. novel treatment, which cold-sprayed a 3.5 mm thick Cu layer onto cavity, enables maintenance an average...
Abstract Three 1.3 GHz nine-cell large-grain superconducting niobium cavities were investigated with medium-temperature baking, using buffered chemical polishing to remove the impurity profiles from previous heat treatments. The average intrinsic quality factor in 2 K vertical tests of was 2.7 × 10 at 16 MV m −1 maximum accelerating gradients 20–22 . These promising values confirmed effectiveness an improved baking recipe for cavities, beneficial radiofrequency applications. Furthermore,...
This article introduced one special cryogenic cooling system for specific HTS magnet. The flow chart is drawn, and the main components are analyzed designed. performance of was evaluated by calculating heat leakage start-up time, which approach technical path to achieve predetermined goal.
