Observations from a 94-GHz radar are used to define the vertical structure of marine fair-weather cumuli. Doppler spectra obtained provide mean velocities as well detailed spectral shapes that can be infer small-scale velocity shear, illuminate cloud microphysical processes, and estimates turbulence dissipation rates. These new observations facilitate analysis understanding in-cloud circulations physical processes involved, since boundaries dimensions mapped along with internal clouds....
Measurements of water velocity and turbulence in a flume using Doppler sonar operating at 1 MHz are presented. Analysis the results shows that instrument qualifies as very useful tool for nonintrusive accurate measurement vertical profiles horizontal u w well parameters including ¯u′w′ Reynold's stress component. The circulating is filtered, so backscattering signal relates primarily to temperature microstructure occurring λ/2, with λ=0.15 cm being wavelength. Quantitative measurements...
The use of short millimeter-wave Doppler radars for the observation clouds and precipitation is discussed. Attenuation scattering (including Mie backscattering by raindrops) this short-wavelength radiation hydrometers discussed as well sensitivity such clouds.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
This paper presents a method for the observation of air vertical velocity and raindrop size distribution in convective storms, based on interpretation Mie backscattering oscillations seen Doppler spectrum observed at incidence with 94 GHz radar. The location first minimum allows an accurate determination motion, which is used to shift so that it relates raindrops terminal alone. drop then retrieved from shifted spectrum. An example structure two‐dimensional updrafts downdrafts low levels...
Observations of sound wave backscattering by turbulent water (free particulates) in a flume using high resolution, 1.5 mm wavelength, Doppler sonar, are presented and discussed. The results show that the produced turbulence yields well defined spectra containing velocity variance information relevant to study characteristics. Near bed, observed spectrum width is greater than expected from other known sources spectral broadening. excess may be explained assuming temperature structures acting...
This note presents observations of sound wave backscattering in a turbulent water flow, conducted with frequency scanning Doppler sonar working 0.5 to 5 MHz band. The observed is attributed temperature microstructures created by turbulence. intensity decreases systematically as function above 1 and falls below detectability for frequencies higher than given value turbulence intensity. cutoff relates the high wavenumber end, k B , spectrum. estimate found excellent agreement its theoretical...
A five-beam pulse-to-pulse coherent Doppler sonar capable of high space-velocity resolution measurements water current mean velocity and turbulence has been developed used extensively to monitor the characteristics flow. One beam is vertical thus providing direct component, w, turbulence. Horizontal are made using two tilted beams contained in a plane parallel longitudinal flow, other also but perpendicular that The paper presents system its performance including techniques extend maximum...
Vertical profiles of water motion and turbulence obtained using a 200 kHz coherent Doppler sonar installed in tidal inlet between Biscayne Bay, Florida the Atlantic Ocean are presented. The operates at monostatic mode is equipped with four separate sequentially switched beams. frame supporting transducers 1.5 meters above bottom beams locking toward bottom. All tilted 12 degrees from vertical two orthogonal planes. positioning tilt downward looking maximizes overlap seafloor. Ancillary...
The paper is concerned with dual Doppler radar observations of the motion fields inside convective storms developing under sea breeze conditions in area Miami, Florida. At low altitudes, storm kinematics are dominated by eastern inflow. altitudes above 3 to 4 kms, storm's circulation becomes increasingly important. yet higher there a very strong interaction between and prevailing north westerly wind. Very velocity gradients found upper levels which suggest mechanism for high altitude...
TV consumption patterns and delivery methods have been subject to major changes in the last decades. It has led two heterogeneous ecosystems with, on one side traditional broadcast making use of MPEG-TS applications, and, other one, streaming applications over broadband internet, addressing enriched cases such as customization VoD. To reach their fragmented audience across a plurality access networks, devices usages, service providers operators decline services into many technically flavors....
