Thromboembolic (TE) events have been frequently reported in β-thalassemic patients association with known risk factors such as diabetes, complex cardiopulmonary abnormalities, hypothyroidism, liver function anomalies, and postsplenectomy thrombocytosis. In a recent survey involving 9 Italian thalassemic centers, we identified 32 TE episodes total of 735 subjects, whom 683 had thalassemia major 52 intermedia, corresponding to 3.95 9.61%, respectively. There was great variation localization:...
Background Oral deferiprone was suggested to be more effective than subcutaneous desferrioxamine for removing heart iron. once-daily chelator deferasirox has recently been made commercially available but its long-term efficacy on cardiac iron and function not yet established. Our study aimed compare the effectiveness of deferasirox, myocardial liver concentrations bi-ventricular in thalassemia major patients by means quantitative magnetic resonance imaging.Design Methods From first 550...
ABSTRACT Accumulation of lipids in the tumor microenvironment (TME) is a feature several solid tumors and increased palmitate (PA) availability fosters progression metastases. The intrinsic effects PA on cancer cells are well understood, but its role modulating CD8 + T (CTL) functional performances remains elusive. Here, we found that alters mitochondrial metabolism CTL prevents their effector functions an irreversible manner, resulting impaired antitumoral immunity. Mechanistically,...
The reasons behind the onset and continuation of chronic inflammation in individuals with severe allergies are still not understood. Earlier findings indicated that there is a connection between allergic inflammation, systemic metabolic alterations impairment regulatory functions. Here, we aimed to identify transcriptomic T cells associated degree severity asthmatic patients. were isolated from (n = 7) mild 9) patients, control (non-allergic, non-asthmatic healthy) subjects 8) perform RNA...
The dysregulation of the immune system plays a crucial role in pathogenesis manyfold diseases, among which we find rheumatoid arthritis (RA), an autoimmune disease characterized by chronic inflammation synovial joints, leading to pain and disability. Immune cells such as pro-inflammatory macrophages T helper 1 (Th1) drive inflammatory cascade. Thus, including inin vitromodels is pivotal recapitulate better understand complex interactions between these cell subsets their secreted mediators....
Troponin I (TnI), an inhibitory protein complex located on the actin filament of cardiac muscle, has become a specific marker myocardial damage. been studied in wide range clinical settings. However, many questions are still unanswered, especially preterm neonates with most common pathology at birth, such as idiopathic respiratory distress syndrome (IRDS). The aim this study was to establish reference for TnI healthy infants and serum levels sick IRDS. Echocardiography performed were...
Lymphocyte subpopulations were studied in 20 hypertransfused patients with beta-thalassaemia major, some of whom had been splenectomised. B-lymphocytes normal but T-lymphocytes decreased all patients. The T-cell count was lower the splenectomised than nonsplenectomised ones. In former, active rosette-forming lymphocytes also diminished, difference not significant. percentage null cells greater and activity K-cells increased compared controls.
A case of double heterozygosity for gamma delta beta-thalassaemia and G was found during a screening programme in Sicily. The proband, 4-year-old girl, showed clinical picture thalassaemia intermedia. Hb F (85.12% by the Singer method) type. parents brother were carriers. Structural analysis both chains father, but only mother.
