Abstract Cephalopods such as squids, octopuses, and cuttlefishes can change their bodies’ color to match the surrounding environments by contracting or expanding sac just below surface of skin. Inspired this mechanism, artificial cephalopod chromatophores which are prepared thermoresponsive poly( N ‐isopropyl acrylamide)‐based hydrogel films embedded with black, red, yellow pigments presented, they swell shrink under temperature stimuli, like natural chromatophores. The cuttlefish ink...
In nature, some creatures can change their body shapes and surface colors simultaneously to respond the external environments, which greatly inspired researchers in development of color-tunable soft actuators. this work, we present a facile method prepare smart hydrogel actuator that bend bidirectionally color simultaneously, just like an octopus. The is fabricated by elastomer/hydrogel bilayer layer was decorated with thermoresponsive microgels as photonic crystal blocks. Compared...
