Abstract Twenty-six patients suffering from DSM-III-R major depressive episode with diurnal variation of mood were examined at approximately 8 AM and PM, using a neuropsychological test battery. We found that tests executive function, especially the verbal fluency test, sensitive measures variation, but personality relatively robust in they not significantly affected by variations mood. The relevance detecting assessing changes reliable, objective performance is discussed.
