The pathophysiology of neuroleptic malignant syndrome is mainly explained by a central hypodopaminergic state. familial occurrence suggests the involvement genetic mechanism in predisposition to syndrome. Therefore, authors examined association between TaqI A polymorphism dopamine D(2) receptor gene (DRD(2)), which alters DRD(2) density and function, development syndrome. The subjects were 15 psychiatric patients who had developed (12 with schizophrenia three major depression) 138 never...

Effects of various factors on steady state plasma concentrations trazodone and its active metabolitem-chlorophenylpiperazine (mCPP) were studied in 43 depressed patients (19 males, 24 females) receiving 150 mg at bedtime for 1-3 weeks. Sixteen cases smokers, 19 also benzodiazepines. The means (and ranges) mCPP, the mCPP/trazodone ratio 619 (251-1059) ng/ml, 59 (32-139) ng/ml 0.100 (0.044-0.219), respectively. Smokers had significantly (p< 0.05) lower higher ratios than non-smokers. Age, sex...

It has been shown that certain personality traits are related to mortality and disease morbidity, but the biological mechanism linking them remains unclear. Telomeres tandem repeat DNA sequences located at ends of chromosomes, shorter telomere length is a predictor late-life morbidity. Thus, it possible influence length. In present study, we examined relationship leukocyte with in healthy subjects. The subjects were 209 unrelated Japanese who recruited from medical students 4th-5th grade....

Effects of carbamazepine coadministration on plasma concentrations trazodone and its active metabolite, m-chlorophenylpiperazine (m-CPP) were studied in six depressed patients treated with trazodone. The daily dose was 150 mg three cases 300 cases. Carbamazepine, 400 mg/day, coadministered for 4 weeks, blood samples taken before addition at weekly intervals after the addition. Carbamazepine significantly (p < 0.01) decreased not only but also m-CPP each week. On average, weeks 24 40%...

Serum concentrations of valproic acid (VPA) and its mono‐unsaturated metabolites, 2‐propyl‐2‐pentenoic (2‐en), 2‐propyl‐3‐pentenoic (3‐en) 2‐propyl‐4‐pentenoic (4‐en), were measured in 36 epileptic patients. The subjects divided into three subgroups, i.e., receiving VPA alone (n = 20: group), with phenytoin 9: + DPH carbamazepine 7: CBZ group). In the group, correlations between serum concentration those metabolites significantly positive (r 0.693, P less than 0.01 for 2‐en; r 0.584, 3‐en;...

Abstract The steady‐state serum kinetics of zotepine, an antipsychotic drug, were studied in 59 psychiatric in‐patients receiving 50–500 mg/day (mean 215 mg/day) the drug. There was a 26‐fold inter‐individual variation concentration/dose ratios (C/D ratios: ng/ml/mg/kg), which ranged from 2.4 to 62.2 13.2). smokers ( n = 37) had significantly lower C/D ±SD: 9.7 ± 7.0 vs 19.0 15.5, p < 0.01), while patients co‐administered benzodiazepines 14) higher (19.06 12.5 11.2 10.9, 0.01) than...

Aims Globular glial tauopathy (GGT) is a new category within the 4‐repeat tauopathies that characterised neuropathologically by tau‐positive globular inclusions (GGIs), namely, oligodendrocytic and astrocytic (GOIs GAIs). Occurrence of neuronal cytoplasmic (NCIs) also feature. GGT classified into three pathological subtypes (Types I, II III). We studied tau pathology in 6 cases (Type II, n = 3; Type III, 3), with special reference to GAIs NCIs. Methods Neuropathological examinations were...
