Cu–Pt bimetallic shells supported on a double-walled TiO2 nanotube (PMTiNT) array are efficient photocatalysts for the room-temperature conversion of CO2 into light hydrocarbons, such as CH4, C2H4, and C2H6. When Cu0.33–Pt0.67/PMTiNT was used photoreduction diluted (1 % in N2), an average hydrocarbon production rate 3.7 mL g−1 h−1 or 6.1 mmol m−2 realized under AM 1.5 one-sun illumination.

Thin films cast from binary blends of structurally homologous polystyrene-block-poly(2-vinylpyridine) polymers were used to obtain horizontal arrays linear nanostructures which visualized by metallizing the poly(2-vinylpyridine) blocks with a tetrachloroplatinate salt. By varying blend compositions block copolymers, fine control over periodicity lines was realized ∼25 55 nm using set just 4 copolymers. For neat copolymers whose equilibrium structures are not cylinders, blending enabled...

Silicon surfaces with nanoscale etched patterns were obtained using polystyrene-block-poly(4-vinylpyridine) (PS-b-P4VP) block copolymer films as templates, followed by brief immersion in HF(aq). The resulting interfaces comprised of pseudohexagonal arrays pits on the silicon, whose shapes depended upon chosen silicon orientation. top unetched face remains capped native oxide, and pit interiors are terminated Si–Hx.
