This study sought to compare the morbidity and mortality of redo aortic valve replacement (redo-AVR) versus valve-in-valve trans-catheter implantation (valve-in-valve TAVI) for patients with a failing bioprosthetic valve. A multicentre UK retrospective redo-AVR or TAVI referred intervention due degenerated bioprosthesis. Propensity score matching was performed confounding factors. From July 2005 April 2021, 911 underwent 411 TAVI. There were 125 pairs analysis after propensity matching. Mean...
Abstract Background Sternal wound infection (SWI) following cardiothoracic surgery is a major complication. It may significantly impact patient recovery, treatment cost and mortality rates. No universal guideline exists on SWI management, more recently the focus has become prevention over treatment. Recent studies report positive outcomes with closed incision negative pressure therapy (ciNPT) surgical incisions, particularly for patients at risk of poor healing. Objective This study aims to...
Abstract OBJECTIVES The premise of this retrospective study was to evaluate the intraoperative use closed-incision negative pressure therapy (ciNPT) help reduce incidence postoperative sternal wound infections in multimorbid patients with an elevated risk developing a infection post cardiac surgery versus cohort that received standard-of-care dressings. METHODS Data for all adult were collected from each cardiothoracic unit across 3 hospitals United Kingdom. High-risk had 2 or more...
