静岡県富士市内に所在するPS協同処理組合(16工場)の協力を得て,PSの化学組成,鉱物組成の週変化傾向を4週間にわたり詳細に検討した。具体的には,PS協同処理組合から排出された全体のPS焼却灰と,組合を構成する16工場から排出された各PSを,それぞれ週1回の間隔で合計4回採取し,化学組成の分析とゼオライト合成を行った。その結果,(1)各工場から排出されたPSの化学組成は変動するが,PS協同処理組合から排出された全体のPS焼却灰の化学組成は極めて安定していること,(2)ゼオライト原料として適するPSのみを選別したと仮定して,計算によって求めた化学組成は,PS協同処理組合から実際に排出された全体のPS焼却灰の化学組成と大きく変わらないこと,(3)このため,工業的にゼオライト合成を行う場合,ゼオライト原料として不適と判断したPSを分別する必要はなく,化学組成の安定した全体のPS焼却灰を原料として用いるのが,作業性,経済性の観点から適すること,等が明らかとなった。

静岡県の製紙産業は古紙の利用が盛んで, そのためペーパースラッジ (PS) の発生量が多く, その処分問題が早くから取り上げられてきた。PSは, 昭和40年代より様々な分野への利用法が開発され, 実用化されてきた。しかし, いまだに, 富士市内だけで年間100万t (水分65%換算) が排出され, セメント原料や製鉄保温材等に使われているが, 年間3万tの焼却灰が埋め立て処分されている。処分場確保の問題等もあり, 新しい用途開発が緊急の課題であることから, PS焼却灰を填料や顔料として紙にリサイクルする方法を研究した。その結果, 二酸化炭素 (排ガス) を導入してPS焼成することにより, 白色度も高く, 軟らかい焼却灰を得るPSの焼成条件を見出した。見出した焼成条件が実用焼却炉で再現できることを確かめた。PS焼却灰は鉄分除去を行いながら, 乾式粉砕と湿式粉砕により所定粒径まで粉砕した。鉄分除去を行ったにも係わらず上市されている填・顔料より赤味のある填料・顔料となった。PS焼却灰の特性を検討するとともに, 内添紙や塗工紙を実機製造した。塗工紙はマット調に仕上がったが,...
