In this paper, we have developed TiZrCuPd quaternary bulk glassy alloys which seem to be favorable for future application as biomaterials because of the absence toxic elements such Ni, Al and Be. A series (TiZr)50(CuPd)50 exhibit high glass-forming ability (with critical diameters 6 7 mm) relatively large supercooled liquid region (ΔTx) over 50 K. This alloy system follows three empirical rules stabilization liquid. The thermal stability Ti40Zr10Cu36Pd14 was also examined in correlation with...
Bulk glassy alloy rods with a diameter of 16 mm and length 40 to 45 were produced for Zr65Al7.5Ni10Cu17.5 by tilt casting method. The specimens taken from the different sites which are away about 10 mm, 15 30 bottom surface cast rod consist phase their thermal stability, mechanical properties fracture mode almost independent specimen sites. glass transition temperature, temperature interval supercooled liquid region before crystallization heat 643 K, 102 K 55 J/g, respectively, three...
In this study, a bone-like apatite layer was formed on Ni-free Ti-based metallic glass. A two-step treatment method, i.e., hydrothermal-electrochemical followed by pre-calcification treatment, developed to prepare bioactive surface the The results reveal that combination of electrochemical-hydrothermal and treatments can accelerate nucleation improve growth rate glass in simulated body fluid (Hanks’ solution). reasons why accelerates were also discussed.
Bulk glassy alloy rods with a diameter of 20 mm were produced for Zr61Ti2Nb2Al7.5Ni10Cu17.5 and Zr60Ti2Nb2Al7.5Ni10Cu18.5 by tilt casting method. The replacement Zr small amount Ti Nb caused distinct increase in the maximum from 16 Zr65Al7.5Ni10Cu17.5 to mm, accompanying decrease liquidus temperature reduced glass transition temperature. primary precipitation phase supercooled liquid also shows change, i.e., coexistent Zr2Cu, Zr2Ni Zr6NiAl2 phases 65%Zr an icosahedral 61%Zr 60%Zr alloys....
In this research, Ti coating was conducted on Ti40Zr10Cu36Pd14 bulk metallic glass (BMG) in order to increase the formation rate of hydroxyapatite layer. The behavior bone-like Ti-coated and uncoated glasses (BMGs) studied. surface morphology BMG investigated by scanning electron microscopy energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. results revealed that alkali pretreatment 5 M NaOH solution at 60°C for 24 h had a beneficial effect porous sodium titanate BMG. A layer able form alkali-treated...
The elastic energy storing capability of bulk metallic glasses was evaluated by employing depth-sensing nanoindentation. densities four glassy alloys, determined nanoindentation measurements, are fairly close to their theoretical values estimated from modulus and strength. This study provides an accurate quick method measure the properties glasses.
The effects of Ta on microstructure and mechanical property Ti-Zr-Cu-Pd-Ta alloys without toxic element were investigated in this paper. results revealed that with increasing content, the glass-forming ability examined decreased. Nano-crystalline composites obtained 1% 3% addition. Higher strength distinct plastic deformation comparing Ti-Zr-Cu-Pd base alloy achieved Ta-containing due to nano-particles existing glassy matrix which inhibit shear bands. Dendrite enriched was also observed 5%...
Bulk glassy alloy rods of diameters 18 and 20 mm were formed during the tiltcasting Zr60Al10Ni10Cu20. A further increase in rod diameter to 22 resulted formation a mixed structure with approximately 60 vol% phase 40 crystalline phase, which comprised central region transverse cross-section rod. The glass transition temperature (Tg), onset crystallization (Tx), liquidus (Tl) measured be 666 K, 768 1153 respectively, resultant ΔTx (=Tx−Tg), Tg⁄Tl, γ (=Tx⁄(Tg+Tl)) values 102 0.578, 0.422,...
In this study, the microstructure and electrochemical properties of PVD TiN (Ti, Al) N coatings on Ti40Zr10Cu36Pd14 bulk metallic glass were investigated. The or coatings, BMG substrate interface was investigated by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. behavior Ti-based studied measuring potentiodynamic polarization curves in Hanks' solution. HREM observation revealed that sputtering ((Ti, N) coating consisted cubic phase with a lattice parameter 0.426 (0.422) nm nanoscale....
Atom probe field ion microscopy was employed to investigate the distribution of Al in a nanocrystalline Fe88Zr7B3Al2 soft magnet with optimal magnetic performance. The atom concentration depth profiles show that atoms preferentially partition into residual amorphous phase, and partitioning factor is approximately five times larger phase than bcc Fe phase. Based on experimental results, beneficial effect addition properties attributed change inherent magnetostriction constant induced by partitioning.
