Two Skylark rockets were launched from Woomera rocket range, Australia (31° S) on the morning and evening of 31 May 1968. Coordinated series measurements neutral atmospheric wind velocity, turbulent structure, temperature density made during each launch between 90 250 km altitude, combining experimental techniques two groups involved. This paper attempts to construct combined these occasions a dynamic picture interactions relate observations previous results obtained by ourselves other workers.

The Australian laser airborne depth sounder WRELADS II was developed to demonstrate the feasibility of using techniques for hydrographic survey. This paper describes system, experimental program used its evaluation, and some results obtained by it. Development system over a five-year period involved 550 h including collection data during 22 sorties calibrated test range. Analysis these has permitted development an empirical bias model. It is shown that meets requirements Royal Navy...

Ellipsometry is a sensitive nondestructive analytical technique well suited to the molecular-beam epitaxy (MBE) growth process. We report its use in real time control composition, rates, interdiffusion, and related surface defects of Cd0.2Hg0.8Te epilayers CdTe/HgTe superlattices grown on CdTe Cd0.96Zn0.04Te (100) substrates using Riber 32 R&D MBE machine that has been custom modified by manufacturer facilitate addition phase-modulated ellipsometer. Growth rate data from ellipsometry are...

Langmuir probe measurements in neutral beam injection (NBI) heated, low-confinement mode plasmas JET ITER-like wall showed that the current to divertor targets, Idiv, helium (He) was up 70% lower on low-field side (LFS) than otherwise identical deuterium (D) plasmas. The edge plasma density at which rollover of Idiv occurred i.e. onset detachment, 10% higher He both LFS and high-field (HFS). increases by 25% for when NBI power 1MW 5MW. total radiated similar D densities below rollover. At...

Spaced-antenna drift measurements between 60 and 100 km, from radiowave partial reflections, are presented in the form of zonal meridional profiles for May June 1969, as a time cross section winds, February–June 52N, 107W. ROCOB data 54N, 110W, up to used complete profiles. The show satisfactory agreement with derived recent model winds.

Boron/epoxy composite patches are being increasingly used to repair damaged structural components. With the increased attention currently given certification of repairs question damage tolerance needs be addressed. Piezoelectric sensors offer potential for detecting and monitoring both in beneath a boron/epoxy repair. This report presents results numerical investigation into use piezoelectric monitor crack growth patch.

A technique for operating krypton-filled flashlamps at high repetition rates and with efficiency in Q-switched lasers is described. The uses simmer currents to remove the timing amplitude jitter that occurs when lamps are run conventional, low currents. Besides giving excellent pulse-to-pulse reproducibility laser output, method also removes any tendency lamp misfire or extinguish.

Radiowave absorption at 2.2 MHz has been measured by the A1 method (vertical incidence, pulse), during noon periods from November 1967 – October 1968 Saskatoon (52° N, 106° W, 61.5° invariant latitude). Monthly mean values are not strongly determined direct solar control. Maxima of found in February, and September–October, which there is increased auroral activity. Correlation with magnetic activity on a daily basis poor except these months, good only when ΣK p greater than 6 (6 h) high...

We present the initial tests of a novel correlation wind lidar (CWL). The instrument scans atmosphere and detects inhomogeneities in aerosol content. Depending on whether it is being exploited from ground-based, airborne or space platform, by cross-correlation determines viable structures for analysis then motions these structures. current exploits recent advances photon-counting array detectors, advanced high-resolution time-tagging image processing techniques.
