Abstract Data from about 4000 Sahiwal cows eight large herds in Pakistan were used to study the influence of genetic and environmental factors on some milk production traits. First-lactation mean values 1363 kg, 1395 kg 252 days for yield up 305 after calving, total lactation length, respectively. Second third yields proportionately 0·12 0·18 higher, respectively, at days. The effect herd-year calving was by far most important source variation all Heritabilities estimated uni- trivariate...

This study aims to characterize Azikheli, an undocumented buffalo breed, in its home tract (Khwazakhela, Swat, Pakistan) under traditional farming conditions. For this purpose, 108 cows and 27 bulls were randomly selected. Mean, standard error, Student's t test Chi-square used for various comparisons. The results show that the majority of animals have a brown coat colour. Cows significantly higher heart girths, longer horns, necks wider faces at level eyes than bulls, whereas bodies, ears,...

Abstract The influence of genetic and environmental factors on body weight reproduction their relationship to milk production traits, were studied in data about 4700 Sahiwal cows from Pakistan. (Co)variance components estimated using restricted maximum likelihood (REML) procedure based the expectation maximization algorithm applying an animal model. Mean weights females were: at birth, 21·6 kg; 1 year, 130 2 years, 222 kg. Records age calving, cow post partum calving interval first three...
