Nontunneled hemodialysis catheters (NTHCs) remain the preferred vascular access at (HD) initiation in developing countries. We studied incidence, risk factors and microbiological spectrum of jugular NTHC-associated bloodstream infections (CABSIs) a tertiary care center South Asia.
Individualized dialysate sodium prescription does affect weight gain, blood pressure (BP), and intradialytic complications. A prospective interventional trial (Dialysate Individualised Sodium (DISO) trial) was conducted to study this issue in Indian patients.
Glomerular Research And Clinical Experiments-IgA Nephropathy in Indians (GRACE-IgANI) is the first prospective South Asian IgAN cohort with protocolized follow-up and extensive biosample collection. Here we report baseline clinical, biochemical, histopathologic characteristics of GRACE IgANI calculate risk progression for cohort.
Double filtration plasmapheresis (DFPP) was historically used for blood group incompatible renal transplantation. Very few studies are available worldwide regarding its efficiency in removing specific plasma components, and safety. We conducted a prospective observational cohort study over 1 year on patients undergoing DFPP various indications. There were 15 with 39 sessions. The pre- post-procedure samples of serum IgG, IgA, IgM, fibrinogen, calcium, phosphate, potassium, magnesium...
Peritoneal dialysis (PD) penetration in India remains low despite the huge chronic kidney disease burden and unmet need for renal replacement therapy (RRT). In order to understand socioeconomic reasons that govern patients’ preference hemodialysis (HD), we carried out an opinion survey among prevalent in-center HD patients at our institution using a multiple response questionnaire was verbally administered them facility by investigators. Close 80% were self-financed 49.5% on twice weekly HD....
Background There are no large studies that have examined ultra-short break-in period with a blind, bedside, midline approach to Tenckhoff catheter insertion. Methods Observational cohort study of 245 consecutive adult patients who underwent percutaneous insertion for chronic peritoneal dialysis (PD) at our center from January 2009 December 2013. were 132 (53.9%) diabetics and 113 (46.1%) non-diabetics in the cohort. Results The mean group was 2.68 ± 2.6 days. significantly more males among...
Chondroid hamartomas of the lung are uncommon lesions which generally small sized and asymptomatic. Herein we describe a case large-sized pulmonary chondroid hamartoma clinically mimicked bronchogenic carcinoma. A large hilar growth was detected in left on radiological studies. Left upper lobectomy done. The well defined with lobulated bluish cut surface. Histopathology disclosed lobules mature cartilage rimmed by long slit-like epithelial channels admixed adipose tissue.
We report findings from a large single centre paediatric renal biopsy cohort in South Asia.
<b><i>Background:</i></b> Limited published literature exists on the utility and standardization of anti-phospholipase A2 receptor (anti-PLA2R) immunohistochemistry (IHC) for diagnosis primary membranous nephropathy (MN). The study aimed to validate anti-PLA2R IHC MN clinicopathological correlations in an Indian cohort. <b><i>Methods:</i></b> Subjects included patients with secondary diagnosed between January 2012 August 2014 adequate renal...
Blood pressure (BP) control at home is difficult when managed only with office blood monitoring (OBPM). In this prospective study, the reliability of BP measurements in renal transplant patients OBPM and (HBPM) was compared ambulatory (ABPM) as gold standard. Adult who had living-related transplantation from March 2007 to February 2008 measured by two methods; ABPM pretransplantation, 2 nd , 4 th 6 9 months all three methods <b>:</b> OBPM, ABPM, HBPM after...
Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) was measured in 9 voluntary male kidney donors by scintigraphy. In the basal state, mean GFR 96.1 ± 22 ml/ min/1.73 m2. Four weeks after donor nephrectomy, of remaining had increased 22.8 20.7% (p < 0.05). A protein meal given at this time failed to significantly augment GFR. The grafted 59.7 24.4% 6 months 0.01). Renal functional reserve thus demonstrated and allograft, though a further could not be elicited kidney.
Chronic Kidney Disease-Epidemiology Collaboration (CKD-EPI) equation is currently recommended for the estimation of glomerular filtration rate (GFR). This retrospective study aimed to evaluate correlation between creatinine and cysC-based estimated GFRs measured GFR in healthy adults. Consecutive adults who were accepted as voluntary kidney donors at our center January 2008 December 2012 included study. The 336 individuals comprised population had a mean age 41.6 ± 11.8 years, male:female...
<ns4:p><ns4:bold>Background:</ns4:bold>IgA nephropathy (IgAN) is the most common primary glomerulonephritis and an important cause of end-stage kidney disease. Unlike slowly progressive course seen among Caucasian East Asian subjects (actuarial survival 80-85% over 10 years), in India about 30-40% patients have nephrotic syndrome renal dysfunction at presentation a 10-year 35%, as reported from retrospective registry. These observations cannot be entirely attributed to lack uniform screening...
Colistin is widely used in the treatment of multidrug resistant bacterial infections. Nephrotoxicity and neurotoxicity are risks associated with colistin use. We report case a 50 year old lady end stage renal disease, treated for catheter related blood stream infection developed muscle weakness parasthesia. Concomitant use meropenem may have precipitated colistin. Conventional hemodialysis was effective reversing her signs symptoms. Clinicians should be aware risk while using colistin,...
Abstract Background We report pediatric PAKT patient and graft outcomes at a large tropical tertiary center spanning two transplant eras. Methods In this retrospective cohort study, all children ≤18 years who underwent kidney transplantation our between 1991 2016 were included. Data pertaining to their baseline characteristics, post‐transplant events, outcome retrieved from records compared eras (1991‐2005 2006‐2016). Results A total of 139 (mean age 15.2 ± 2.9 years) during period. The...
Aim: The outcome and long-term adverse events associated with induction agent use for living donor (LD) kidney transplantation (KT) in India were studied. Materials Methods: Consecutive LD transplant recipients (KTRs) from 2005 to 2013 They divided based on use, into group no group. was further subdivided those receiving antithymocyte globulin (ATG group) basiliximab (IL-2RB group). Study subjects also classified high low immunological risk groups. Outcomes evaluated patient graft survival,...
Background: Difficulty in cannulation of arteriovenous fistula (AVF) can lead to inadequate dialysis, transient permanent loss access and increases dependency on bridging catheters. This study aimed analyze the causes for difficult cannulation, using various imaging modalities. Methodology: was a retrospective single-center observational conducted between October 2017 June 2018. Patients whose fistulae were cannulate initially evaluated by physical examination followed doppler...
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in kidney transplantation is an important issue with effects on patient and graft survival. The current standard of care involves using oral Direct Acting Antiviral drugs. Till recently, pre-transplant treatment interferon was the only option for treatment. We studied 677 consecutive transplant recipients HCV infection. 5.2% patients had evidence 2.0% were newly detected to have after (de novo group). Nearly 28.6% negative antibody tests but positive Nucleic...
Kidney biopsy (KBx) is the gold standard for evaluation of kidney disease, but associated with a higher risk complications in patients reduced glomerular filtration rate (GFR). We studied safety and utility KBx eGFR <30 ml/min/1.73 m
Skin colonization is a risk factor for multi-drug resistant (MDR) catheter-associated bloodstream infections (CABSI). This study aimed to determine the prevalence and spectrum of skin colonizing MDR organisms in incident HD patients their correlation with CABSI.
