Abstract Aim To analyse the distributional patterns of Baja California Peninsula's resident avifauna, and to generate a regionalization based on method that uses parsimony analysis (parsimony endemicity, PAE) point data modelled potential distributions. Location The Peninsula, Mexico. Methods A base was constructed containing records 113 species terrestrial birds present in Peninsula. Records localities were obtained from literature specimens housed scientific collections world‐wide. Raw...
Variation in leaf morphology is correlated with environmental variables, such as precipitation, temperature and soil composition. Several studies have pointed out that individual plasticity can largely explain the foliar phenotypic differences observed populations due to climatic change suggested environment plays an important role evolution of plant species by selecting for variation. Thus, study help us identify factors potentially influenced process diversification. In this study, we...
Abstract Aims We aimed to evaluate how climatic fluctuations influence the plasticity of anatomical vessel traits and width annual tree-rings two relict-endemic Mexican Magnolia species. Notwithstanding, few studies have assessed drought effect on in tropical montane cloud trees eastern Mexico. Methods Through digital images growth rings, we tree radial rate, age regarding species studied. compared density, hydraulic diameter percentage conductive area years (DY) non-drought (NDY) Important...
A bioclimatic modeling of the tree Ternstroemia lineata DC. (Ternstroemiaceae) was undertaken. The genus itself is considered as diagnostic or characteristic Mexican cloud forest. has broadest distribution all species in this family Mexico and northern Central America. This consists two subspecies, T. subsp. chalicophila (Loes.) B.M. Barthol. Ecological niche models for both subspecies were generated using genetic algorithm rule-set production method. ecological years 2020, 2050, 2080...
The cloud forest of Molocotlán indudes part two municipalities the Hidalgo State, Molango and Xochicoatlán, is located in Huasteca region Sierra Madre Oriental. Arboreal vegetation divided three vertical strata: high (20-30 m), medium (8-20 m) , lower (2 -8 m). flora area includes 391 species, 270 genera, 112 families. Genera are grouped according to their present distribution six categories; a percentaje them exclusively American.
Background: Many Mexican Ternstroemia species mainly inhabit the tropical montane cloud forest. These have been misidentified in herbaria due to their morphological resemblance. Question: Are there foliar anatomical and micromorphological characters with diagnostic value that allow discriminating between of Ternstroemia? Study species: sylvatica Schltdl. & Cham., T. lineata DC. subsp. (Pentaphylacaceae Engl.), 2018-2019. site date: Tropical forests at Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt Sierra...
Climatic variations influence the adaptive capacity of trees within tropical montane cloud forests species. Phenology studies have dominated current on tree Leaf vein morphology has been related to specific climatic oscillations and varies species along altitudinal gradients. We tested that certain Neotropical broad leaf Magnolia might be more vulnerable adaptation moisture than others, as they would resilient hydric deficit. assessed trait (vein density, primary size, length, base angle)...
In this study, we document the distribution, current knowledge, and conservation of twenty-six tree species gymnosperms (four species) angiosperms (twenty-two characteristic Mexican cloud forests most endemic to Mexico. Many are threatened included in international national Red Data List, such as IUCN, Official Norm (NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010). Distribution maps these 26 were generated based on information from herbarium specimens, specialized literature, web databases, our own field surveys....
The distribution of Mexican Magnolia species´ occur under restricted climatic conditions. As many other tree species from the tropical montane cloud forests (TMCF), appear to be sensitive drought. Through use dendrochronological techniques, this study aims determine climate influence on vessel traits M. vovidesii and schiedeana which are endangered that endemic Sierra Madre Oriental in eastern Mexico. Because most TMCFs fluctuations, it is necessary investigate differences...
Abstract Background The genus Ternstroemia is associated with the vulnerable tropical montane cloud forest in Mexico and other relevant vegetation types worldwide. It contains threatened pharmacologically important species has taxonomic issues regarding its limits. This study describes 38 microsatellite markers generated using a genomic-based approach. Methods results We tested 23 of these natural population lineata . These are highly polymorphic (all loci 3–14 alleles per locus expected...
Geographical distribution, diversity, endemism and conservation of Cactaceae in the Mexican state Tamaulipas were analyzed based on distributional data obtained from specialized literature, fieldwork herbarium specimens. territory was divided into grid-cells 10 × min latitude/longitude used as units analysis. comprises 174 taxa 33 genera Tamaulipas, representing a high proportion cacti with 65% at generic level 23% specific level. The richest are Opuntia (40), Mammillaria (35), Echinocereus...
A new species of Ternstroemia, T. guerrerensis O. Alcántara-Ayala, I. Luna-Vega, F. S. Maradiaga-Ceceña & H. Alvarado-Sizzo, is molecular, phylogenetically, and morphologically described illustrated from Guerrero, Mexico. This short tree inhabits disturbed areas the tropical montane cloud forest (TMCF), with Magnolia vazquezii different oaks as dominant in canopy. related to lineata subsp. lineata, but differs latter shape apex leaves, peduncle length color, petiole connective...
