Human granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) is a cytokine derived from activated T cells, endothelial fibroblasts, and macrophages. It stimulates myeloid erythroid progenitors to form colonies in semisolid medium vitro, as well enhancing multiple differentiated functions of mature neutrophils, macrophages, eosinophils. We have examined the binding human GM-CSF variety responsive cells cell lines. The most myelomonocytic specifically eosinophils, express highest numbers...

Several independent studies of bacterial degradation nitrate ester explosives have demonstrated the involvement flavin-dependent oxidoreductases related to old yellow enzyme (OYE) yeast. Some these enzymes also transform nitroaromatic explosive 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT). In this work, catalytic capabilities five members OYE family were compared, with a view correlating structure and function. The activity profiles differed substantially; no one compound proved be good substrate for all...

Abstract LPS-binding protein (LBP) mediates the pro-inflammatory effects of bacterial LPS by enhancing LPS-induced cytokine production monocytic cells. LBP binds specifically to generate a complex that interacts with CD14 receptor on surface responsive To identify biologically active regions responsible for mediating these activities, we cloned and expressed human rLBP (456 amino acids) as well truncated form encoding acids 1-197 (rLBP25). Both forms bound same affinity, similarly inhibited...

Abstract: The expression of 34 transmitter‐related genes has been examined in the cholinergic neurones rat striatal brain slices, with aim correlating gene functional activity. mRNAs encoding types I, II/IIA, and III α subunits voltage‐sensitive sodium channels were detected, suggesting presence these three channel. Similarly, all four α‐amino‐3‐hydroxy‐5‐methyl‐isoxazole‐4‐propionate (AMPA)‐type glutamate receptor NR1 NR2A, 2B, 2D NMDA‐type receptors that various combinations mediate...

Altered expression of genes can have phenotypic consequences in cancer development and treatment, developmental abnormalities, differentiation processes. Here we describe a rapid approach, termed comparative expressed sequence hybridization (CESH), which gives genome-wide view relative patterns within tissues according to chromosomal location. No prior knowledge or cloning is required, minimal amounts tissue be used. Expression profiles are achieved manner similar the identification...

A simple, rapid, and highly sensitive technique is described for the detection of endoglucanase endoxylanase in isoelectric-focused gels. Agar substrate gels containing 0.1% carboxymethyl cellulose or xylan are prepared on GelBond® plastic film placed contact with an electrofocused gel enzymes under study. Hydrolysis zones visualized by staining Congo red. As little as 1 ng enzyme detected 5 min using this technique.

While screening for germline CHK2 mutations in cancer cases by heteroduplex CSGE, we observed that additional PCR fragments were generated from the 3' end region of gene includes exons 11-14. Direct sequencing these suggested homologous loci (possibly pseudogenes) concomitantly being amplified. Searches public sequence databases showed a number areas genome show high degree homology to 10-14 gene. The presence regions means standard methods detecting CHK2, based on genomic DNA, are prone...
