Purpose To determine if microwave ablation (MWA) of retroperitoneal tumors can safely provide high rates local tumor control. Materials and Methods This retrospective study included 19 patients (median age, 65 years [range = 46–78 years]; 13 [68.4%] men six [31.6%] women) with 29 treated over 22 MWA procedures. Hydrodissection (0.9% saline 2% iohexol) was injected in 17 (77.3%) procedures to protect nontarget anatomy. The primary outcomes evaluated were progression (LTP) complication rates....
Management options for small renal masses include active surveillance, partial nephrectomy, radical and thermal ablation. For tumors typically ≤3 cm in size, ablation is a good option those desiring an alternative to surgery or especially patients who are considered high surgical risk. We favor microwave because of the more rapid heating, higher temperatures that overcome heat sink effect vessels, reproducible cell kill, highly visible zone formed by water vapor corresponds well necrosis....
In infants, hematochezia must be approached with a broad differential diagnosis, including anal fissure, allergic colitis, Meckel's diverticulum, intestinal malrotation, necrotizing enterocolitis, and less commonly arteriovenous malformations, gastrointestinal duplications, hemangiomas. Infantile hemangiomas, the most common tumor of infancy, are typically cutaneous lesions. Those arising from viscera much but can cause significant morbidity mortality if not diagnosed early managed...
As technology continues to improve within the neuroprosthetic landscape, there has been a paradigm shift in approach amputation and surgical implementation of haptic neural prosthesis for limb restoration. The Osseointegrated Neural Interface (ONI) is proposed solution involving transposition terminal nerves into medullary canal long bones. This design combines concepts neuroma formation prevention with osseointegration provide stable environment conduction signals sophisticated prosthetic...
Spinal pain is a common complaint and cause of disability in the United States, affecting most individuals at some point their lives. The complex anatomy spine leads to multiple potential coexisting etiologies for pain, differentiation these sources can present diagnostic challenge. Image-guided spinal injections provide both information identifying location as well prolonged therapeutic relief an alternative medical management. Anesthetic corticosteroid medications be administered within...
Abstract Chronic liver disease predisposes patients to the development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and degree dysfunction helps dictate management with primary hepatic malignancy. Percutaneous ablation is an increasingly utilized treatment modality for who are poor surgical candidates, particularly when goals include sparing parenchyma in setting dysfunction. Various thermal non-thermal modalities have historically been used treat HCC. With advances technology, modern microwave (MW)...
