During pregnancy, primary Toxoplasma gondii infection can cause congenital toxoplasmosis (CT). We described the newborns’ outcomes from a multicentre cohort of mothers with seroconversion (SC) at different gestational ages. This retrospective observational study (from 2007 to 2018) was conducted in two Italian referral hospitals: Fondazione IRCCS Policlinico San Matteo Pavia and Spedali Civili Brescia. In total, 247 pregnant women were enrolled: seroconversions documented as having occurred...
Summary Bleeding is a common and feared complication of oral anticoagulant therapy. Several prediction models have been recently developed, but there lack evidence in patients with venous thromboembolism (VTE). The aim this study was to validate currently available bleeding risk scores during long-term anticoagulation for VTE. We retrospectively included adult on vitamin K antagonists VTE secondary prevention, followed by five Italian Anticoagulation Clinics (Cuneo, Livorno, Mantova, Napoli,...
The research aimed to investigate the incidence of SARS-CoV-2 breakthrough infections and their determinants in a large European cohort more than 60,000 health workers.A multicentric retrospective study, involving 12 centers, was carried out within ORCHESTRA project, collecting data up 18 November 2021 on fully vaccinated workers. cumulative investigated with its association occupational social-demographic characteristics (age, sex, job title, previous infection, antibody titer levels, time...
Natural antibodies to IFN-gamma were found in healthy individuals ranging from newborn babies adults and, at higher levels, patients suffering different viral infections. During a infection, the titer of anti-IFN-gamma was observed be correlated with stage disease. Antibodies specific affinity purified both sera taken and viral-infected patients, by using rIFN-gamma-coupled CNBr-activated Sepharose 4B column. The IgG class, maintained their ability bind rIFN-gamma. They then tested for...
In this study, we show that BNT162b2 vaccine-elicited antibodies efficiently neutralize SARS-CoV-2 authentic viruses belonging to B.1, B.1.1.7, B.1.351, B.1.525 and P.1 lineages. Interestingly, the neutralization of B.1.1.7 lineages was significantly higher, whereas B.1.351 robust but lower as compared B.1 lineage. Following our findings, consider vaccine offers protection against current prevailing variants SARS-CoV-2.
The pandemic influenza A (H1N1) 2009 (H1N1pdm09) virus infection caused illness and death among people worldwide, particularly in hematologic/oncologic patients because infected individuals can shed for prolonged periods, thus increasing the chances development of drug-resistant strains such as oseltamivir-resistant (OST-r) variant. The aim our study was to retrospectively evaluate clinical importance OST-r variant circulating H1N1pdm09 virus. By means RT-PCR Sanger sequencing we analysed...
The ABO blood group exerts a profound influence on hemostasis, and it has hence been associated with the development of thrombotic cardiovascular adverse events. In this study, we evaluated relationship between risk disease assessed Cardiorisk score. All donors aged 35 65 years were enrolled in program, which included assessment 8 variables (sex, age, total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) plasma glucose, arterial pressure, anti-hypertensive therapy smoking) used to generate score....
The remarkable variability of response to vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 is apparent. present study aims estimate the extent which host genetic background contributes this in terms immune and side effects following administration BNT162b2 vaccine. We carried out a genome wide association (GWAS) by genotyping 873 Italian healthcare workers who underwent anti-SARS-CoV-2 vaccination with vaccine for whom information about spike antibodies titers were available. GWAS revealed significant between...
Purified recombinant HIV-1 p17 matrix protein significantly increased replication in preactivated peripheral blood mononuclear cell cultures obtained from healthy donors. Because infection and is related to activation differentiation status, the present study, we investigated role played by during process of T stimulation. Using freshly isolated cells, demonstrate that was able enhance levels tumor necrosis factor α IFN-γ released cells stimulated IL-2. IL-4 found down-regulate α, restored...
