Psychometric properties of the 11-item self-report Drug Use Disorders Identification Test (DUDIT) were evaluated in a sample heavy drug users from prison, probation, and inpatient detoxification settings, general Swedish population sample. In user sample, DUDIT predicted dependence with sensitivity 90% for both DSM-4 ICD-10 respective specificity 78 88%. Reliability according to Cronbach’s α coefficient was 0.80. 3.1% scored positive on DUDIT; T-score values are suggested. The screens...
ABSTRACT A new psychiatric report and rating scale assessing severity frequency of aggressive behaviour is presented evaluated. It based on the staff's standardized reports incidents. By using a special aggression form, comprehensive information obtained, thereby permitting scoring further analysis different aspects The reliability tested found to be good as scale's capacity discriminate between patterns in groups patients. As result this because simplicity scale, it thought potentially...
Proper assessment of aggressive behavior is essential for an understanding its causes. In 1987, Palmstierna and Wistedt [Acta Psychiatr Scand 76:657-663] introduced the Staff Observation Aggression Scale (SOAS), instrument monitoring frequency, nature, severity incidents. present study, validity SOAS scoring system was examined, scores were refined. The used to record aggression on six closed wards three psychiatric hospitals. 556 incidents compared with estimates given Visual Analogue...
Violence is frequent towards nurses in forensic mental health hospitals. Implications of this high risk environment have not been systematically explored. This paper explores occurrence symptoms on post traumatic stress and their relationship to professional quality life.Self report questionnaires assessing life were distributed among psychiatric a security unit with frequency violent behaviour. Relationships between symptoms, nursing experience, type ward compassion satisfaction, burnout...
Among clients who have been screened already for drug-related problems, the Drug Use Disorders Identification Test--Extended (DUDIT-E) maps frequency of illicit drug use (D), positive (P) and negative (N) aspects use, treatment readiness (T). D scores correlated with Diagnostic Statistical Manual Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition diagnoses among 154 heavy users from criminal justice detoxification settings, as well urine test results in units. One-week test/retest intraclass correlation...
Abstract Background The objective of the study was to calculate prevalence inmates with intellectual disabilities (ID), and identify historical, medical criminological characteristics a certain impact. Methods A random sample 143 from Norwegian prison cross sectional studied. Hayes Ability Screening Index (HASI) validated Wechsler Abbreviated Scale Intelligence (WASI). Results ID, IQ < 70, 10.8%. Some essential ID were more frequent medication for mental disorders, higher number...
The frequency and characteristics of aggressive hostile behavior in 40 psychogeriatric inpatients was investigated using the Staff Observation Aggression Scale (SOAS). Most acts were directed towards nursing staff when providing help with activities daily living. A positive correlation found between age behavior, while severity most strongly correlated to length admission. significant decrease observed during six weeks observation. causes this are discussed together implications for future...
During a 25-week period, all incidents of aggressive behavior in 19-bed psychiatric acute care unit were systematically recorded using the Staff Observation Aggression Scale. Forty-seven 163 patients admitted to on 119 occasions. Of these incidents, 100 physical attacks another person, and 95 perpetrated by 23 patients. Short- to medium-term risk assessment in psychiatric hospitals is a topic of clinical relevance that deserves attention from the research community. In this paper, Short Term Assessment Risk and Treatability, or START ( Webster, Martin, Brink, Nicholls, & Middleton, 2004 ), new structured instrument for judgment dynamic treatment factors briefly described. Internal reliability properties are analyzed predictive validity severe violence Norwegian high secure hospital investigated. The...

An extended Cox proportional hazards model multiple events and time‐dependent covariates was estimated how highest sum last 24 h its separate items affect risk for severe violence...
Violent behaviour within 8 and 28 days respectively was related by a multivariate statistical procedure to risk factors for aggressive in an epidemiologically representative sample of 105 acute involuntarily admitted patients. Previous violent the patient found correlate significantly with during first admission, abuse drugs other than alcohol admission. Determination coefficients were very low, it is concluded that associated are limited value predicting among inpatients.
The present study evaluates the accuracy of clinical and archival predictors patients' aggressive behaviour on a locked admissions ward.Over 9-month period, staff members estimated likelihood that patients would become during their stay in ward. These unaided assessments were obtained with Visual Analogue Scales (VASs) administered before end first full day admission. Archival predictions based demographic variables (e.g. gender, number previous admissions, diagnosis) derived from admission...
The aims of the present study were to investigate clinically relevant patient and environment-related predictive factors for threats violent incidents first three days in a PICU population based on evaluations done at admittance. In 2000 2001 all 118 consecutive patients assessed admittance Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Patient-related conditions as actuarial data from admission, global clinical by physician nurses day, single rating with an observer rated scale scoring behaviours...
