Sarcopenia following liver surgery has been reported as a predictor of poor prognosis. Here we investigated predictors outcomes in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and attempted to establish new comprehensive preoperative assessment protocol. We retrospectively analyzed the cases 254 who underwent curative hepatectomy for HCC Child-Pugh classification A at our hospital between January 2007 December 2013. was evaluated by computed tomography measurement. The influence sarcopenia...
Pembrolizumab has been introduced to solid cancers with microsatellite instability (MSI)-high cases; however, its clinical experience for cholangiocarcinoma remains very limited. Here, we present a case who successfully underwent conversion surgery following pembrolizumab treatment MSI-high perihilar cholangiocarcinoma, which pathologically exhibited complete response. A 69-year-old male Bismuth IV bulky lymphadenopathy was referred, initially required left hepatic trisectionectomy, caudate...
Peroral infection of Toxoplasma gondii is thought to reflect the typical route naturally acquired toxoplasmosis in humans. We have investigated possible differential roles toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2) and TLR4 host defense against murine toxoplasmosis. After peroral inoculation T. ME49 cysts, TLR4-deficient C3H/HeJ mice were more susceptible than wild-type (WT) C3H/HeN mice, as shown by increased cyst number low production cytokines, which are key factors protective immunity. When inoculated...
The key to the prevention of gallstones or dissolution stones already in existence probably lies rendering hepatic bile unsaturated with respect cholesterol. Cholesterol comprises 80%-100% commonly encountered gallstones. Comparative vertebrate biochemistry has shown that most animals can carry solution considerably more cholesterol than is normally present; man, however, practically saturated For example, human 15 25 mg.% additional solution, while cholesterol-holding capacity (CHC) dog 120...
AbstractWe investigated the effects of selective logging on stand structure and regeneration in selectively logged subboreal forests Taisetsuzan National Park Hokkaido northern Japan. The basal area decreased size trees altered stands studied due to repeated, intense logging, which larger were cut down as a priority. Sapling density was much lower than that primary forests. In simple multiple regression analyses used estimate sapling density, had significant positive correlation with tree...
Although the three-dimensional (3D) printing technology has spread in field of neurosurgery, use 3D print models concerning glioma surgery rarely reported. For surgery, some preoperative and intraoperative assistive methods have been developed to avoid injury cortex fiber that are related neurological function. Furthermore, order perform simulation we created a model using multi-material printer provided flexibility adjusting color, hardness, translucency each structure arbitrarily. The was...
Falcotentorial meningioma occurs close to the falcotentorial edges and confluence of vein Galen. The posterosuperior approach conventionally used reach this site does not allow direct visualization tumor matrix, making detachment difficult. Meningiomas at location are therefore among those that well amenable radical resection. We devised an alternative anterolateral that, when in addition approach, provides operating field which allows overview large, bilaterally extending tumors. report...
Intracranial neurenteric cysts are rare congenital abnormalities with a broad imaging spectrum, and therefore occasionally mistaken for other common intracranial such as epidermoid arachnoid cysts. We report two cases of in the posterior cranial fossa that were initially types They exhibited signal intensity alterations magnetic resonance significant volume expansion during their long-term observation. Both received surgical treatment because clinical deterioration. Histologically, lined by...
Serial MRI was used to examine the long-term course of posterior disc displacement (PDD) after non-surgical treatment. performed on a 63-year-old woman with PDD accompanied by bone marrow oedema (BME) in mandibular condyle. The patient had joint pain right temporomandibular (TMJ) and open bite immediately manual reduction TMJ dislocation. Initial showed non-reducible subchondral BME. underwent treatment, symptoms improved. first follow-up 5 months PDD, expansion BME erosion 1 year 8 initial...
OBJECTIVE The authors describe the usefulness and limitations of cochlear nerve compound action potential (CNAP) mobile tracer (MCT) that they developed to aid in mapping during vestibular schwannoma surgery (VSS) for hearing preservation. METHODS This MCT device requires no more than 2 seconds stable placement on obtain CNAP thus is able trace instantaneously. Simultaneous bipolar monopolar recording possible. present outcomes 18 consecutive patients who underwent preoperative useful...
Species distribution models can be used to predict favorable areas for population persistence under contemporary climate change. However, these predictions are often based on broad-scale environmental variables and lack consideration of local-scale environments. Small where species protected from unfavorable regional conditions by using locally conditions, which called microrefugia, therefore overlooked in current approaches conserve biodiversity. Here, a two-step approach, we explored the...
Despite the advancement of 3-dimensional (3D) printing technology with medical application, its neurosurgical utility value has been limited to understanding anatomy bones, lesions, and their surroundings in field. To develop a 3D printed model simulating surgical technique applied skull base surgery (SBS), especially reproduce visually field together mechanical properties tissues as perceived by surgeon through procedures performance on model. The Young modulus representing degree stiffness...
We report an unusual case of inflammatory pseudotumor the bladder. A biopsy specimen prior to surgical treatment suggested leiomyosarcoma, and computerized tomography magnetic resonance imaging strongly bladder tumor with sigmoid colon invasion. Accordingly, radical consisting total cystectomy, anterior resection colon, ileal conduit was performed. After operation, however, histological examination revealed colon. These findings were confirmed by immunohistochemical staining for smooth...
Syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH) is an extremely rare cause hyponatremia post-liver transplantation. A 15-year-old Japanese girl with recurrent cholangitis after Kasai surgery for biliary atresia underwent successful living donor liver Peritonitis due to gastrointestinal perforation occurred. Hyponatremia gradually developed but improved hypertonic sodium treatment. One month later, severe rapidly recurred. We considered the hyponatremia's as SIADH. suspected...
We report 2 cases of micturitional disturbances due to labial adhesion. Two women, aged 78 and 77 years old, visited our hospital with chief complaints difficult voiding urinary retention. On examination, their labias were found be extensively fused. In both cases, the adhesions separated by surgical repair under spinal anesthesia. Gentamicin steroid ointments used prevent readhesion labia postoperatively.
The type I insulin-like growth factor receptor (IGF-IR) and its associated signaling system play a significant role in tumorigenesis, tumor survival progression, cancer therapeutic resistance, thus has provoked great interest as promising target for treatment. In this report we present the of IGF-IR gastrointestinal carcinomas whose pathology been identified tightly correlated with an abnormal expression activation IGF-IR. Reported data from experimental studies suggest feasibility targeted...
The Cholangiocarcinoma Screening and Care Program (CASCAP) has been launched since 2013 to detect early-stage cholangiocarcinoma reduce the disease death. However, clinical utility of CASCAP remains unclear. To compare survival outcomes between two time periods: before after 2013, when significant changes in treatment strategies were implemented, evaluate efficacy ultrasound-based screening program, an Asian region endemic for cholangiocarcinoma.
