Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the biggest global problems threatening human and animal health. Rapid accurate AMR diagnostic methods are thus very urgently needed. However, traditional antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) time-consuming, low throughput viable only for cultivable bacteria. Machine learning may pave way automated prediction based on genomic data comparing different machine encodings whole-genome sequencing without previously known knowledge remains to be...
A total of 98 previously characterized and serotyped L. monocytogenes strains, comprising 32 1/2a; 20 1/2b 46 4b serotype, from clinical food sources were studied for their capability to form a biofilm. The microtiter plate assay revealed 62 (63.26%) strains as weak, 27 (27.55%) moderate, 9 (9.18%) strong biofilm formers. Among the formers, 6 serotype 1/2a 3 1/2b. None strain exhibited formation. No firm correlation (p = 0.015) was noticed between any respective formation ability. Electron...
The foodborne pathogen Listeria monocytogenes (Lm) is a highly heterogeneous species and currently comprises of 4 evolutionarily distinct lineages. Here, we characterize isolates from severe ovine listeriosis outbreaks that represent hybrid sub-lineage the major lineage II (HSL-II) serotype 4h. HSL-II are virulent exhibit higher organ colonization capacities than well-characterized hypervirulent strains Lm in an orogastric mouse infection model. harbour both Pathogenicity Island (LIPI)-1...
Species within the Enterobacter cloacae complex (ECC) include globally important nosocomial pathogens. A three-year study of ECC in Germany identified xiangfangensis as most common species (65.5%) detected, a result replicated by examining global pool 3246 isolates. Antibiotic resistance profiling revealed widespread and heteroresistance to antibiotic colistin detected mobile (mcr)-9 gene 19.2% all We show that properties depend on chromosomal arnBCADTEF cassette whose products catalyze...
The early growth phase is a critical period for the development of chicken gut microbiome. In this study, spatiotemporal diversity gastrointestinal microbiota, shifts in taxonomic composition, and relative abundances main bacterial taxa were characterized Kadaknath, high-value indigenous Indian breed, using sequencing V3–V4 region 16S rRNA gene. To assess microbiome composition abundance shifts, three chickens per (3, 28, 35 days) sampled, with microbiota analyzed from regions (crop, small...
A total of 17 Enterobacter-like isolates were obtained from blood during a septicaemia outbreak in neonatal unit, Tanzania, that could not be assigned based on phenotypic test to any existing Enterobacter species. Eight representative investigated detail. Fermentation characteristics, biochemical assays and fatty acid profiles for taxonomic analysis determined supplemented with information derived whole genome sequences. Phenotypic morphological tests revealed these Gram-stain-negative,...
Abstract Nosocomial pathogens can cause life-threatening infections in neonates and immunocompromised patients. E. bugandensis (EB-247) is a recently described species of Enterobacter , associated with neonatal sepsis. Here we demonstrate that the extended spectrum ß-lactam (ESBL) producing isolate EB-247 highly virulent both Galleria mellonella mouse models infection. Infection studies streptomycin-treated model showed as efficient Salmonella Typhimurium inducing systemic infection release...
We examined extended-spectrum β-lactamase-producing isolates from livestock, humans, companion animals, food, and the environment during 2009-2016 in Germany for presence of CTX-M-27 allele within Escherichia coli sequence type (ST) 131. E. ST131 C1-M27 was exclusively present humans; its incidence increased 0% 2009 to 45% 2016.
Two Listeria -like isolates obtained from mangrove swamps in Goa, India were characterized using polyphasic combinations of phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and whole-genome sequence (WGS)-based approaches. The presented as short, non-spore-forming, Gram-positive rods, that non-motile, oxidase-negative, catalase-positive exhibited α-haemolysis on 5 % sheep- horse-blood agar plates. 16S rRNA gene sequences 93.7–99.7 nucleotide identity to other species had less than 92 closely related genera,...
BackgroundBrucellosis is a widespread zoonotic infection. This disease endemic in many parts of Asia, including India. Brucellosis major cause pyrexia unknown origin (PUO). Persons exposed to infected animals or contaminated animal products are at high risk. Seropositivity among handlers, veterinarians and dairy workers has been documented Thus, the present study was aimed determine prevalence brucellosis PUO cases occupationally individuals.
The taxonomic status of all species the genus Elizabethkingia was re-evaluated by comparative genomics based on whole-genome sequencing. From these results it is clear that endophytica a later subjective synonym anophelis. In addition, genome-based analysis revealed misidentification isolates previously identified traditional approaches and indicates presence two more species. We propose rapid identification scheme basis an in silico PCR assay derived from sequences (WGS) 29 well-curated strains.
The appearance of persister cells with low metabolic rates are key factors leading to antibiotic treatment failure. Such persisters multidrug tolerant and play a role in the recalcitrance biofilm-based chronic infections. Here, we present genomic analyses three distinct Pseudomonas aeruginosa Egyptian persister-isolates recovered from human To calculate frequencies, viable counts were determined before after levofloxacin. susceptibilities isolates different antibiotics using agar-dilution...
Five beige-pigmented, oxidase-negative bacterial isolates, 6331-17T, 6332-17, 6333-17, 6334-17 and 9827-07, isolated either from a drinking water storage reservoir or in 2006 2017 Germany, were examined detail applying by polyphasic taxonomic approach. Cells of the isolates rod-shaped Gram-stain-negative. Comparison 16S rRNA gene sequences these five showed highest sequence similarities to Lelliottia amnigena (99.98 %) nimipressuralis (99.99 %). Multilocus analyses based on concatenated...
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global health and development threat. In particular, multi-drug (MDR) increasingly common in pathogenic bacteria. It has become serious problem to public health, as MDR can lead the failure of treatment patients. typically result mutations accumulation multiple genes within single cell. Machine learning methods have wide range applications for AMR prediction. However, these approaches focus on drug prediction do not incorporate information accumulating...
IntroductionInfectious diarrhoea particularly due to pathogenic bacteria is a major health problem in developing countries, including India. Despite significant reports of diarrhoeagenic Escherichia coli (DEC) pathotypes around the globe, studies which address genetic relatedness, antibiogram profile and their correlation with respect isolation from different sources are sparse. The present study determines identification DEC sources, characterisation, if any.Materials methodsA total 336...
